It's currently 23% behind, but with basically nothing left in the tank this evening it should end about -28%.

That would be nice.

I think it's just not the best comp to use. If today is $20M, then a +44% presale rate and expected walkup increase is a better comp than anything in the opening weekend. Idk if over $35M is happening though...

I was getting 30-32 from Fri as well, as I said (with a 20 est). Using Zack’s Fri as 21 (chain ratios may change on eve, I dunno) then I guess 31-34ish. Still gotta hope it’s unrepresentative.

Below today's final. Utah has weird movie going habits for Thanksgiving and Christmas, at least with animated movies

So my 11M guess for Matrix was way off. But if I think about it, where should bigger walk-ups have come from? Beside other factors it had so few IMAX shows and for those the best seats were gone (plus almost all others too) and its digital shows did not fill up like hoped.
I decided not to bring in even more doom and gloom before it really happened but on Thursday Matrix 4 had 1.160 sold tickets for Friday = 37.5% of the presales it had on Tuesday for Wednesday in my 7 theaters. So in all my wrongness something was right ;) (38% of 6.4M = 2.4M).

Some better news:
American Underdog, counted today at 5am EST for today:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): no showtimes
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24):
4 (4 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 118 (4 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 50 (2 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 35 (4 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16):
20 (4 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 14 (5 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 6 theaters: 241.
Comps: Overcomer had on Thursday for Thursday 91 sold tickets (8.1M OW on a normal 3-day weekend).
And Christmas with the Chosen (1.2M on Friday, 2.7M on its release day/Wednesday) had on Friday for Friday 273 sold tickets in the same 6 theaters.

Idk if AU will have good walk-ups...but from the comps its presales look quite decent.

A Journal for Jordan, also counted today at 5am EST for today:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 48 (4 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 4 (4 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 19 (3 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 2 (2 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 4 (4 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16):
8 (4 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 35 (4 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 120.
At least that's a big last minute improvement after almost no tickets were sold two or three days ago.

Scream had today 408 sold tickets for Thursday, Jan 13...
Comps: The Forever Purge had on Thursday for Thursday (= 0 days left) 241 sold tickets,
Halloween Kills had 9 days before 315 sold tickets for Thursday

and AQP II had also 9 days before 402 sold tickets for Thursday.

...and 166 sold tickets for Friday, Jan 14.
Comp: Halloween Kills had 10 days before 353 sold tickets for Friday.

Where did friday finish at(ticket number)? I think saturday has limits based on the show numbers. I dont see that changing big time.

still has time

@GoblinXXR wouldnt that % increase ?

For sure. yesterday plexes closed early. How much more it can increase is dependent on where it finished yesterday. Canada should do way better and so overall Alpha ratio will be down.

That looks great for Scream!

Also, is it possible that American Underdog will be over both Matrix and King’s Man today?

I expected a larger number today than I got. This is lower than my presale count for Thursday. I'm hoping Saturday can beat Friday by at least 60% but my initial goal was 80%. We will see how well walkups end up doing.

Spider-Man: No Way Home Current Number, 24 Screen Theater, 9PM - December 24, 2021

Counting for Saturday - December 25, 2021

24 show times, 770 tickets sold

Comp to NWH 2nd Friday

+44.74% with no adjustment

Much to my surprise, Sunday presales are stronger than Saturday (and taken 23 hours later instead of a full 24). Could Sunday actually be bigger than Saturday since a lot of people are still off Monday? Anything better than a 10% drop is a bonus in my book.

Spider-Man: No Way Home Current Number, 24 Screen Theater, 8PM - December 25, 2021

Counting for Sunday - December 26, 2021

26 show times, 839 tickets sold

Comp to NWH 2nd Saturday

+8.96% with no adjustment
