The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

I don't think Sony has much stake in Only the Brave. It and the Sicario sequel were originally gonna be released by Lionsgate until the production studio split with them and those two went to Sony.

That would also explain why it feels like a dump

I don't understand why the wildfires would hurt Only the Brave to be honest. Maybe it's just a cultural difference between Canada and the States but I would normally assume people would flock to see something that honours those who put their lives on the line to protect us from things like wildfires which are in the news right now.

Anyone able to add a different take on this?

Unless a movie is an absolute cultural event or Oscar contender, American audiences don't like being reminded of the real world at the cinema and prefer escapism.

All I See Is You is only going to 250 theatres? I thought it was getting a wide release.

You're not crazy for thinking that since it's been listed that way forever. But, the studio did confirm it wouldn't be going wide about 2 months ago when asked directly. Not sure why that hasn't better publicized yet.

So i have an acquntance working at my country's biggest theater chain and thought it would be interesting to look at presales (my country is not very big at presales) anyway :

Star Wars : performs as the expected behemonth that it is.Lots of near sell outs for OD (thursday-typical OD  is not particular big day when it comes to moviegoing except films ith huge fan following).I would also like to point out that this is the first time presales for a film occur so far off from the film's release-usually it's like a month or a bit less before release.

Thor Ragnarok : At this point i don't think presales for it will happen.Which is very weird given how anticipated the film is.

Justice League : Presales have not opened yet but from what i'm hearing the theater is receiving hundreds of calls and emalis daily asking them about when the tickets become available.Personally, when i asked her  last week she told me that she didn't remember the exact date but it was sometime this week(which makes sense now that we know that tickets will be availbale in the US this Thursday).

Deep Wang updates:

- TLJ has settled at about 25% higher than where Rogue One was after 2 weeks of presales. The rest of the presales will be slow till like a week or so before release

- Thor is at about 70% of where Guardians 2 was at the exact same point in time before release, the comp dates have finally caught up.

- Bad Moms is doing really well, it has already done more in presales than the previous movie, and the "Mom's night out" event has done better than what Girls Trip ended with

- Jigsaw has done about as much as Flatliners, this better be a walkup franchise

Suburbicon has sold 90 tickets total, Thank You For Your Service is at 8k. Neither are setting the world on fire this weekend.

200, not 90
