The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Some sad news, Deep Wang will not provide any updates going forward as he quit his job recently. He might post here later as a farewell. Just letting everyone know that the era of actual presale numbers is over.

This is why AMC shouldn't have raised their work age to 18 :whosad:

So, I figured I'd post Friday's 15:17 at my locals...Regal should sell better b/c it sells these movies better...

1st local (Cinemark) - 6 shows/115 seats - 4, 0, 2, 2, 18, 2 for 28/690

2nd local (Regal) - 5 shows/90 seats - 8, 9, 10, 38, 10 for 95/450

Interestingly, the cheap matinee on Saturday at Cinemark has outsold all of Friday (29 to 28), so this could be a strong Moviepass/cheap movie and/or a stronger weekend option...

Final sales for Fifty Shades at my theater tonight:

7:00: 92/124

7:30: 31/78

7:45: 6/78

8:00: 50/78

8:15: 14/78

8:30: 6/78

9:00: 67/113 (it isn't 9:00 yet but given there's only the front rows and wheelchairs left I doubt it gains more tickets)

Total: 266/627

It only gained forty tickets from this morning. That shouldn't be surprising, but that just shows how frontloaded this series is. Preview comps:

25% of The Last Jedi (11.3M)

80% of Thor (11.6M)

83% of Justice League (10.8M)

99% of It (13.4M) (Keep in mind this was severely lacking capacity)

333% of Blade Runner (13.3M)

333% of Kingsman (11.3M)

Sucks I don't have a FSD comp. Friday report will be coming shortly, but right now I think it could hit 6M in previews.

Thieves: 2/156

12 Strong: 1/180

Winchester, The Post, Shape of Water, and Three Billboards have sold nothing.

I was able to find February 10's numbers the morning of in that weekend thread. Freed is running at 71% of Darker (33.1M). Freed has a lot more capacity thanks to the shorter runtime, but its daytime showings look fucking awful compared to Darker.

Peter Rabbit is running at 75% of LEGO Batman (39.8M). I'm suspecting a group buyout at one morning show, so with those sales at that showing removed, it would be 45% of LEGO Batman (23.9M). It's shredding all of the fall and winter kids movies to bits.

15:17 comps:

70% of John Wick 2 (21.3M)

140% of 12 Strong (23.7M)

145% of Hostiles (14.6M)

167% of The Post (32.4M)

Given how wonky my theater was with Hostiles, that's probably the best comparison

I didn’t even look at the numbers and comparison’s percentages to other movies. I only look at those mesmerizing Deep Wang gifs that follow each category.

Now, I’m not an gif expert, but seems like Deep Wang is telling me the pre-sale numbers are definitely wang-worthy?
