Monday-Wednesday Presales Volume

Date        Name                        Monday      Tuesday    Wednesday
04/06/18    A Quiet Place          2177          4003         10665
04/06/18    Blockers                  504           1106         2931
04/13/18    Rampage                705           1508         4109
04/13/18    Truth Or Dare         385           760           2133
04/20/18    Super Troopers 2    2825        3447          6811
04/20/18    I Feel Pretty             871         1610          4423

Both new openers have strong presales but Super Troopers 2 is the outlier of this group with pretty weak daily bumps. Only 22% Monday-Tuesday jump compared to the rest of the movies with 80-120%. Tuesday-Wednesday jump is weak likewise.

As I said, when it's being promoted that a particular movie has presales HIGHER than the 7 previous entries in the series combined (2 of which are those you mentioned as $25 million), then yes, only being 20% higher than one of those would be a disappointment / underwhelming or whatever you'd like to call it.

.....did it occur to you that maybe the presales aren't JUST for Thursday night alone? And did it occur to you that 2 of those movies came out in 2016 and presales have gotten more mainstream since, so it's not the best comparison? And did it occur to you that, time and time again, we've seen movies break presales records but still fall short of opening records due to that very factor of "presales being more mainstream every year, which means they weren't as implemented before as they are in the then-present time"? Hell, Civil War was promoted as a bigger presale hit than Age Of Ultron, and not only did it NOT outopen Ultron previews-wise, but it came over 10M below Ultron's OW period.... Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 was also said to be outpacing some of these movies on Fandango, and it also didn't beat them, Thursday or OW wise. Another example: Batman V Superman was, at the time, the highest preselling superhero film ever, but it still fell short of The Dark Knight Rises. PRESALES DON'T MEAN EVERYTHING.

Black Panther is far and away the best comparison to it, and if it beats it by 5M, that's an accomplishment. It is a pretty big deal to say that a movie is outselling 7 other movies combined, but there's context to this beyond "holy fucking shit". And if you cry because it "only" made 30 million in Thursday previews when it would be just the 2nd superhero movie in history to do it (and the 1st one was one of the most anticipated movies in modern history, though I don't think it was quite as anticipated as Infinity War but probably in the top 5 for the 2010's decade), then I'm sorry to tell you that you're making a storm in a teacup.

I feel like it's awesome that we get presales data because it definitely helps us gauge at how a movie is going to do. However I feel like some folks abuse presales data to the point where they end up being disappointed or end up underestimating a movie. How many times has a movie opened way higher than what it's presales would indicate? How many times has a movie opened way lower than what it's presales indicate? Too many instances to count. The reality is that presales data shouldn't be used as the end all be all to how a film is going to perform. There are so many other factors to it that one has to consider.

That seems promising for both openers. Super Troopers 2 is bound to be frontloaded considering its niche nature.

I hardly consider anything I’ve said to be crying or complaining. Just making observations. Get off your diatribes dude.

I was just pointing out why I personally find it - not to be rude, but here it goes - pretty dumb that anyone would be disappointed by that of all reasons. Kind of an observation too, structured as an argument of sorts.

Holy crap! Deadpool 2 appearing that early...

Every big movie appears on Pulse when the tickets officially go on sale which is supposed to be today for Deadpool. It is hardly shocking
