The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Looking at that Fandango poll, Ant Man is a major after thought this summer. Zero buzz.

Less than Sicario 2, lol.

And yet it will outgross all 4 movies atop it (most likely doubling or tripling Sicario’s gross). These buzz polls are almost useless as box office trackers.

Last year BR2049 was higher than both Kingsman and IT and yet ended up grossing less than those.

Justice League was pretty high on the list, over IT, too and we all know how that turned out.

Hmm, I wouldn’t be 100% surprised if it was Marvels first domestic disappointment (a gross slightly under the original).

I dont remember how the marketing or the buzz was for the original but it makes sense to hold onto marketing for this movie right now and let IW pass. Any thing Ant Man related now will just get drowned in IW hype and will probably confuse people as well.

They should start marketing this after Deadpool or even Solo is released and get those huge movies out of the way. After that it will only have to contend with Incredibles and Jurassic World

Yeh I can see why they’re holding back just now, they’ll wait until after Deadpool. It has Skyscraper in its second weekend + Hotel Transylvania, then it has some quieter weekends (and July weekdays) until Mission Impossible opens.

I do not think IW will be a very frontloaded weekend, I think it actually will be less frontloaded then the SW openers.

I could Easily see...

35 Previews

60 Friday (Ultron Did 57 million in comparison)

70 Saturday +16% (Civil War Jumped 21%)

55 Sunday -22%

220 Million weekend

Initial tracking indicated that the superhero adventure would launch to $175 million to $200 million, but projections have since increased to between $190 million and $235 million-plus. If those numbers continue to increase, “Infinity War” could be eyeing the highest premiere of all time.

Fandango Summer Poll:

Most Anticipated 2018 Summer Blockbuster:

  1. Avengers: Infinity War (April 27)
  2. Deadpool 2 (May 18)
  3. Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25)
  4. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (June 22)
  5. Incredibles 2 (June 15)
  6. Ocean’s 8 (June 8)
  7. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (July 20)
  8. Mission: Impossible – Fallout (July 27)
  9. Sicario: Day of the Soldado (June 29)
  10. Ant-Man and the Wasp (July 6)

How the heck are Mamma Mia and Ocean's 8 ahead of MI-F?

MI-F is my most anticipated movie this summer and that maybe is clouding my judgment, but i thought the trailer was exquisite and did its job.
