This is probably very anecdotal, but I've been reading about a lot of walkouts for Holmes and Watson.

I thought about walking out 10 minutes in and trading my ticket in for Vice.  Would have been a smart decision because the movie only gets worse as you go on.

What’s so bad about it?

It’s just an objectively terrible movie.  Horribly unfunny, the way it’s edited makes it odd to follow and seem even stupider than it already is.  The production value is terrible.

Im also sure the political jabs in the movie didn’t help its WoM case.  They were poorly done and unfunny.  Which is baffling because it should be easy to make a funny jab at Trump, yet the movie couldn’t even do that successfully (not to forget that it makes absolutely no sense in the context of the movie to even address Trump).

Maybe Star Wars does it? But there have only been 4 Star Wars films released in the last 3-4 years so not really normal at all.

Not even SWTFA was about eight weeks or so (mid/late Oct), and TLJ was 7 weeks IIRC (late Oct).  R1 was about three-plus weeks (late Nov) and Solo was also three weeks (Early May).

So, yeah.  Pretty strange to see it this far out.

That’s what I thought. I assumed for the mega blockbusters it was roughly 4-8 weeks as a range that’s why I was surprised when I saw the commercial for it during the NBA Christmas games and it had tickets on sale.

Yeah, nevermind. I went back and had a look and realized that when tickets went on sale for AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR and stuff like that it was more like a month and a half or two.

Either way, you're right. For a movie like US, 3 months in advance is unprecedented. Universal must be projecting this to be a huge event!

They had the trailer for it play all day during the NBA Christmas games and judging by the views for the trailer on Twitter (I haven’t checked YouTube yet) I would bet it has the potential to be a huge event as well.

Other 12's set for Friday (Dec 21)

NEW

Aquaman (1.4 - 2 3d/ 5 2d) - so light for this theater and a supers movie...

Bumblebee (1 - 3 3d / 2 2d) - strange set to have more 3d than 2d...

Second Act (1 - 5)

Marwen (1 - 5)

RETURNING

MP2 (1.2 - 6 showings - drops from 13 Wed - 1 full screen and 1 extra 7pm show)

Mortal Engines (1)

Spidey (1 - already dropped additional screen)

The Mule (1)

Grinch (1)

Ralph (.6 - 3 showings - all matinee)

Beasts (.2 - 1st showing)

Creed (.2 - last showing)

This theater has also held about a screen - since they don't do foreign films, it's almost certain they held it to give showings around.  They either pulled the MP 2nd full screen or Spidey's 2nd to do it last minute...I'm thinking MP2, b/c it's quite a drop from the Wed set...

So, Dec 14s are on, still with full screens, although Spidey lost his 2nd...both animateds survive...and Beasts and Creed keep a pity showing for now...maybe they get more if the new crappy releases crash and burn...

My Regal local just set its Dec 28 to New Year's schedule...

Aquaman - now 8 all 2d shows (+1 extra show, no 3d)

Bumblebee - now all 2d shows (5)

Second Act - same

Marwen - same (this has got to be painful)

MPR - now 7 showings (+1 - picked up an 10pm extra, to go along with a 7pm extra)

Mortal Engines - same (this also has to be painful)

Spidey - same

The Mile - same

Grinch - same - kept all the screens

FB2 - now 4 showings (+1)

Ralph - same

Creed gone - Holmes and Watson and Vice somehow don't have screens, when they have them now...now, this may be the Xmas help screwing up royally, but I can't imagine either of those movies allowing a 3 day screening and then a drop...although it would be pretty funny if they did...I can see ME falling out to fit when someone realizes the screw ups...probably FB2 would be the other one to drop...

Who's leading right now ?

If I'm looking at it right, MPR (2,556) is outselling Aquaman (1,674) for the past 3 hours.

MPR has also closed the gap on MT.com (23.2% for Aquaman & 18% for MPR). But that's for the past 24 hours.

I said on another thread that I read about some Trump supporters laughing at all the garbage humor who then changed their tune when the movie started taking jabs at Trump.

Yeah, I think it’s impossible for this movie to please just about anyone besides maybe Michael Avenatti.

My local Cinemark also set its Friday/weekend schedule...bloodbath of holdovers as expected...here's the set, and it's low for everything (but somehow, Spidey kept its 2nd screen - wow!)

NEW

Aquaman (almost 2 - 9 showings - 2 3d, 7 2d) - very small set for a superhero movie, but when almost 4 screens are supers, how many more can it get?

Bumblebee (1 - 6 showings - 2 3d, 4 2d)

2 foreign films (.4 - 1 single 10pm showing each)

RETURNING

Mary Poppins (1.5 - 7 showings - same set as Wed)

Mortal Engines (1)

Spidey (now 2 full screens and 10 showings)

The Mule (1)

Deadpool (.5 - 2 showings - shares with MP2)

Ralph (.8 - no late show - foreign film #1 has it)

Grinch (.8 - no late show - foreign film #2 has it)

There is one screen open.  So, this theater won't be booking both Marwen and Second Act...heck, it may not book either, and save the screen for adding showings...we'll see...

And for holdovers, it was Dec 12 (Deadpool) and Dec 14 openers (all 3)...and then the 2 animated movies...and every other movie is gone.  Grinch and Deadpool will be gone on Dec 25...not sure if anything else will follow, or if that will be enough to fit whatever the theater plans to open then...

So, the Cinemark local finally set its weekend schedule, and it ALSO has changes:)...here they are...

NEW

Foreign Film (1 - 4 showings) - Simmba

Vice (1 - 5 showings - funny they did not book this til now, and the other local only booked it the 3 days - it's almost like a swap)

RETURNING

Holmes and Watson (1 - 6 showings) same as Xmas

Aquaman (almost 2 - 9 showings - only change is it's now 1 3d, 8 2d)

Bumblebee (1 - 6 showings - only change is now it's 1 3d, 5 2d)

MPR (1.5 - same set)

ME (.2 - 1 late show)

Spidey (1.5 - down to 7 showings)

The Mule (same set)

Ralph (same - ME has the late show)

Grinch (1)

Deadpool (not dropped til Friday) and the foreign films are gone...ME, Spidey, Deadpool, and the previous foreign films dropped the screens/showings to fit the 2 new additions...
