Your theatre is doing very good. 👍

Considering others are reporting only 6-10% occupancy.

Which area are you analysing?

we will see. i think walk-ups will be big for this because it seems like Endgame took the air out of presales

Decided to get my presales from almost the same time (okay this is almost 2 hours earlier)...compared to the Disney flick which underperfomed in my area, Shazam is doing better tonight...compared to a super, it's not...here's to Shazam acting like a Disney live action family movie vs a supers movie - c'mon, a girl can dream:)...

1st local - Cinemark - 116/800 2d seats (7pms are best), 8/175 3d seats (shouldn't have bothered) for 124/975 - so, that's sucky for a super, but in good news, more than Dumbo ended the night at (and 82 more than Dumbo had now)...

2nd local - Regal - 149/375 2d seats (7pm is almost sold out), and 42/70 3d seats for 191/445 - this is also sucky for a super here, but has also outsold Dumbo for the night, and 117 more than Dumbo had now...

So, is this a story of the family super breaking out over the weekend, or is it giving the big red flag to a subpar weekend?  Well, I said last weekend in the casino that I had Shazam over Dumbo, and these numbers make me stick with that.  I'm also still staying in my $60M+ camp that I predicted weeks ago, BUT I'm not gonna go any higher...I'd say Aquaman's number is a likely ceiling and I'd expect $5-$10M less for the weekend (with the early previews keeping the BO over the $60M point)...

I am totally not understanding assertions that Shazam is going to play similar to a "family" movie, not a superhero movie. Almost all superhero movies play to families even though they are not explicitly juvenile. Aquaman, Black Panther, Infinity War etcetera all have played great with families, but they still perform to the patterns of superhero movies.

I have seen so many of reporting Endgame opening night occupancy.

On average it is around 70% of tickets sold. This is absolutely crazy considering this is the 3rd day of presales.

So, when will theatre add more show for opening night?

On Tuesday before release or will they release new showtime before hand.

Depends on if the theaters can, short of making every theater Avengers the theater I work at probably can't add any more showings for Endgame. Currently at 9 showings from 6 to 7:45, and then 1 extra theater at 9:30  before reusing 2 theaters for the last 2 showings of the night at 9:55 and 10, then we close. Unless Disney moves previews up earlier than 6 which i don't see happening we probably can't add more than a single showing unless we intend to be playing fewer than 3 other movies for that 9 o'clock set.

If theatres want to play less than 3 movie. Will their respective studio allow this?

Yeah I am also not sure about it, SH play on a family movie continuum with the SpiderMan Homecoming being the most family, but even on that one family audience was a minority.

This will play old male heavy like all of them, imo. I would not expect the under 13 to be necessarily above 18%.

Not sure Shazam is gonna be walk up based as the 4PM showtime did not sell anymore seats and will close out with what I previously reported.

The 3D showtime for 5PM went up by two tickets though!

They might not depending on their cost-benefit breakdown. Not all theaters are like AMC 25 or Arclight LA that can run 24/7. They also need time to clean and restock.

For example, both IMAX shows on Thursday at my local chain are sold out. They could add a 2:00AM showing. But they’d had to pay to keep the theater open. Is that worth it to sell an extra 144 tickets?  Maybe, maybe not.

This is why I am STILL cautious over anything over 250M at this point.  At some point, the smaller market theaters will just run out of seats. Or people will decide it isn’t worth seeing the movie in from a bad seat, and will wait for a better seat, even if it is next week or weekend.

I took a looksee at Century Arden for Shazam! and it's kinda interesting.  The 4pm to 5pm shows, including the PLF screen, aren't doing so hot.   Really picks up at 7pm though, before crashing again for the 10pm and later shows:

Arden
8:00 (3D)    94    110    14.55%
11:05 (3D)  109    110    0.91%
4:00 (2D)   247    260    5.00%
7:00 (2D)   152    260    41.54%
10:05 (2D)  227    260    12.69%
4:30 (2D)   136    160    15.00%
5:00 (2D)    98    110    10.91%
7:30 (2D)    89    160    44.38%
10:35 (2D)  141    160    11.88%

	    1293 1590 18.68%
	    297 tickets sold

Not quite 24 hours later:

Arden
8:00 (2D)	71	110	35.45%
11:05 (2D)	106	110	3.64%
4:00 (2D)	214	260	17.69%
7:00 (2D)	133	260	48.85%
10:05 (2D)	215	260	17.31%
4:30 (2D)	122	160	23.75%
5:00 (2D)	88	110	20.00%
7:30 (2D)	54	160	66.25%
10:35 (2D)	134	160	16.25%
   	       1137	1590	28.49%
	       453 tickets sold

I have the approx half day update for Venom as well:

Arden
6:30 (3D)	47	110	57.27%
9:15 (3D)	53	110	51.82%
5:00 (2D)	55	161	65.84%
7:45 (2D)	19	161	88.20%
10:00 (2D)	52	110	52.73%
10:30 (2D)	78	110	29.09%
10:45 (2D)	31	51	39.22%
11:00 (2D)	86	110	21.82%
5:30 (2D)	114	260	56.15%
8:30 (2D)	80	260	69.23%
11:15 (2D)	212	260	18.46%
	        827	1703	51.44%
                876 tickets sold

Venom gained a showing during that timespan while Shazam! didn't.  It's also dropped a bit on percentage as it was at 55.31% (297/537) at around this time yesterday while now it is at 51.71 % (453/876).  That points to around 5.2m Thr previews.  Which is at the high end of some of the comps we saw earlier in the week.

Don't know if the slight drop (55.31 to 51.71) is a sign of anything other than random variation though.

Nothing in the Sacramento area yet for Pika Pika.

And as my earlier comment implied, I DO plan on doing a complete track for Detective Pikachu from start to finish.  I'm legit curious to see how it'll pre-sale given on the one hand it should be a family film and thus have softer pre-sales. Yet it has insane trailer views so it might have something of a rush anyway.

Be good to get another non-Marvel film into my tracking anyway. 👍
