Not surpised Flop:Covenant opened so low. It looked horrible from the trailers and the reaction to Prometheus was yet another nail in the coffin for this franchise which lets be honest..is mostly terrible, what is it? 2 good films out of 8? This crappy franchise makes X-Men look like gold as far as ratio of good movies to bad. Put a fork in this franchise or reboot it without Ridley Flopp.

And there's no chance of catching up with 2014 this weekend.  Maybe when wonder woman opens.

Alien franchise has never been that popular. Even the hyped Alien 3 wasn't anywhere close to the top ten grossing films of that year

 

 

Alien Covenant is also a movie primarily for the fans only

 

 

 

but still Fox made some dumb decisions. Moving up from the August release date and not shooting in 3D when that was one of the most praised aspects of Prometheus

I believe in advanced sales giving us a good idea actually. The issue right now is that the box office is unbelievably low for the weekend before MD. Tomorrow there is a really good chance only 2 movies are above 1M in dailies which is almost unprecedented for this time of year. Higher advanced sales definitely means a higher OD for sure, everything from that point forward depends on word of mouth and how much people are liking the movie.

So Alien looked poised to do $40m+ on Friday and we were all confident, but now that $35 comes out, suddenly its "im not surprised, I knew it would flop."
