Wednesday #s: Baywatch 1.25M in previews

Still not sure how so many people here thought Pirates 5 would come close to the poorly-received fourth one, especially when so many sequels have seen some truly hideous drops the past few years and this just looked like more of the same, not to mention Depp's image taking such a dramatic dive over the past few years. Nothing indicated it was immune.

Doesn't seem like WOM is as mixed as Covenant was after first screenings. I expected 60s or 70s judging by the reviews instead POTC is where most big franchise blockbusters are.

Really think this movie got unfairly trashed and WOM might be better then some think especially for fans of the franchise.

 

Audience scores mean nothing.

 

With campaigns, online fans etc it's impossible to use a true reflection. 

 

But we all know that now.

If Pirates only hits the mid-to-high $50s for the 4 day, I'm not gonna get scared of any of my other pre-summer predicts - I'm gonna stick with them all.  Yeah, yeah, ignore Baywatch at #5...it's gonna have a Bad Moms run, you'll see:)...

These are incomplete figures but according to Box Office Mojo Dangal has done 120 million internationally in which 111 million comes from China. But there are no figures listed there from India. So that number is obviously much higher.

 

Baahubali has done around 60 million internationally but again these figures are incomplete.

It is rational that critics and audiences will have different views on some movies.

When a person has watched hundreds of movies in his life including some classic masterpieces he would be more strict than a random dude who thought that "The Avengers was the best movie ever!!!".

Probably BOM hasn't updated the OS-grosses for both movies yet.

 

Maybe they will in later time when the OS-gross is big enough.

It isnt as bad but it's still nothing spectacular. It's like an ok episode of a TV show that's been on for far too long, like a decent episode from season 32 of The Simpsons.

If you think that audience scores online aren't reliable that's fine but please read the threads about this movie(and POTC 5) in here; most people enjoy it and it's a pretty solid B for most of them according to our own scores section.

 

So yeah sure, use critics scores for a baseline of sorts about a certain movie but please do actually read some of their reviews(don't just glance at the score) if you at least thought the trailers from a movie looked appealing to you and read the opinions of the people who have actually watched it to really decide if you're going to see a movie or not.

 

Remember that 25~% score actually means that 1 in 4 critics recommend it(roughly the same for POTC 5) and if you thought based on the trailers and before reviews hit that you were likely to like that movie then there's a big chance you will actually enjoy it unless you can see some issue with the reviews that you just know will put you off.

So, I mentioned yesterday that my local theaters had doubled screenings for Baywatch after 6pm...well, now they've both tripled them after 10pm (and made the change late last night)...not sure if they stole a screen from Pirates since that doesn't seem to be doing as well late night or from some other holdover, but it does give Baywatch more screens when it's likely to do its best since this is not a matinee-goer's film:)...

Bahubali is around 1550 crore (237M+) without China release while Dangal is closing in on 1600 crore or 248M+.
