In fact, most major studios haven’t paused animation productions during COVID-19, with pics like Spin Master’s Paw Patrol: The Movie (due out August 20, 2021), Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon and Pixar’s Soul, DWA’s Croods 2, The Boss Baby 2, The Bad Guys and Spirit Riding Free continuing to be in full operation with artists and filmmakers working remotely.

Tim (Marsden) is now a married dad. Ted is a hedge fund CEO. But a new boss baby with a cutting-edge approach and a can-do attitude is about to bring them together again … and inspire a new family business. Tim and his super-mom wife Carol (Longoria) live in the suburbs with their super-smart 7-year-old daughter Tabitha (Greenblatt), and super-cute new infant Tina (Sedaris). Tabitha, who’s at the top her class at the prestigious Acorn Center for Advanced Childhood, idolizes her Uncle Ted and wants to become like him, but Tim worries that she’s working too hard and is missing out on a normal childhood. When baby Tina reveals that she’s—ta-da!—a top secret agent for BabyCorp on a mission to uncover the dark secrets behind Tabitha’s school and its mysterious founder, Dr. Armstrong (Goldblum), it will reunite the Templeton brothers in unexpected ways, lead them to re-evaluate the meaning of family and discover what truly matters.

This seems destined for a drop. The only reason the first movie was a hit was its release timing. March 2017 was when Donald Trump and Alec Baldwin were the two most talked about figures in pop culture. Even if Trump gets re-elected, and Lord knows we don’t want that, the whole “lol Trump as a baby” gag just isn’t that funny anymore.

Idk, the Netflix series is popular amongst kids. Though that could be fuel to fire.

Don't really get that decision.

The first movie was a big success, things will be good enough by July to them at least give it 2-3 weeks theatrical exclusivity.

I get Disney doing PA because D+ is huge and people will still pay to watch their movies, but this move just seem stupid.

Subscriptions.

Plus this has been awaiting release for a while and Universal is probably planning to turn DreamWorks into a streaming only brand eventually since they will have put out four of their movies in some form since the pandemic started by July 4th (including two that will now open less than a month apart), especially when they're willing to sit on Minions 2 for a full two years.
