I love Pirates of the Caribbean and while I understand that this franchise is getting tiresome, the universe is very extensive and has a lot of story to tell. I think Disney should test a spin off without Jhonny Deep (plus some original movies) and see what happens. I don't see the point in giving a giant salary to Deep anymore. His good times are over.

Not everything has to be a shared universe. I think it's just time to move on.

The PotC films, while not perfect by any means, have a pretty good place among blockbuster cinema of the past decades. And part of the reason is how fresh they felt when they came out - pirate movies were dead at the time, and the added injection of fantasy gave the saga a lot of energy and inventiveness. Let's leave them in their place and seek the next new pleasure, instead of sucking the life out of this one. It deserves better.

ALRIGHT GET READY FOR THE ULTIMATE DISNEY CRITICS CONSPIRACY THEORY.

As we all know, Disney pays off their critics to give all of their movies good reviews.  However, that doesn't explain that some movies DO get bad reviews on Disney's slate.  There's a always a Pirates 5, or an Alice 2, or whatever in there.  Well, I think I have found out exactly what Disney is up to.

Every year, Bob Iger and the other Disney executives make a bonfire and gather around it, before they decide to perform a satanic ritual on what films will get good reviews. 70% of all critics will receive checks in the mail, thus guaranteeing they give the movie a good review.  However, they also choose a sacrificial lamb on their slate, in which they pay critics to give the movie BAD REVIEWS.  This is done to trick all of the people who see the obvious fact that they pay critics into believing they don't.  They saw Pirates 5 as having the least potential, and as such, it's suffering this year.  Magic Camp was only made solely to be their sacrifice next year.

I'll say it one last time: Anyone who liked ANY of the previous POTC films and has decided to pass on this one is making a big mistake. The Tomato critics are wrong, this is a very entertaining POTC flick specifically and summer action/adventure movie generally. Well worth a trip to the cinema.

Yes, this. It also ties in with the trilogy.

I think it is. WW will suck all the air left out of it. But at over  $300m already, that's no shame. It will top off at about $360m DOM, smashing!

360m is way too low. Minimum 380m DOM, and that's if WW destroys it (which i dont see happening at all). 400m are very much alive. 360m is locked since last weekend.

Who in a million years would've thought that Get Out was going to likely finish w/100M (or close to that) above Alien: Covenant? Who in a billion years thought that last year's Don't Breathe was going to do more than Alien: Covenant? That drop, though..... disastrous is putting it gently. Prometheus dropped almost 10% LESS, for Christ's sake. It really should've stuck to that August release date, and even then, I'm not sure if it still would've made more than 80M DOM.

It's been a pretty rough year for franchise horror, actually, as Rings, Underworld and Resident Evil all tanked DOM, and now Alien is fighting w/Baywatch for the title of underperformer of the Summer as well. Let's see if Annabelle manages to redeem franchise horror a little bit, as so far, the hopes of the genre lie on original content (which... is actually kind of a great thing, KEEP THAT UP AUDIENCES).

And the hopes of comedy also lie on original content too (looking at you, Rough Night, Girls Trip and/or The House), cause Baywatch.... yikes.

Baywatch is one of the Dwayne Johnson rare misses. I guess this proves Kevin Hart was really pulling his weight. No one is here for Zac Efron.

I would say that this should tell Zac Efron something (since he hasn't had an actual hit since the first Neighbors), but his next few projects (The Disaster Artist, The Greatest Showman, that Ted Bundy thing) are the furthest things possible from these party boy roles in lame movies nobody wants to see he's been taking on for some time now, so...

P.S. that tweet by The Rock yesterday was hilarious. I feel bad for him now though for when he sees these numbers.

Thanks, but I'd rather choose to believe the girl from that porn site ad saying she wanted to have sex with me really meant that.

I dunno, the only reason my sister wanted to see Baywatch was because of Zac Efron.

You know it to be true.  Wear the tin foil already so you can differentiate yourself from the uneducated as a well informed man.

Rough Night got good reactions from its recent screenings this week so if reviews are also good I think it'll do very well. I also think the forum is really underestimating Girls Trip. It's got plenty of potential for a surprise hit with a clear premise that has plenty of crossover appeal.

Keeping sanity on the Baywatch "disaster" - lousy opening...but probably enough to make the film money (or break even, without WW doing anything special).  So calling it a disaster is compared to our box office expectations, not its profitability...

I mean, Pirates cost at least 3x (and probably 4x) Baywatch (depending what Baywatch and Pirates numbers you believe), so it needs to open as such...it is gonna do about that, so both movies becomes "ehhh" not "wows"...

And the Bilderberg group is behind it.

Everything,Everything is gonna end up being a cute solid hit. Probably finishes with around 35-40m.

Only original non-comedy wide release in a month...not too surprising:)...and good for it!
