Not so sure Ridley's going to be able to finish the prequel-sequel Alien story now.... Terrible number.

Guardians V2 keeps holding on like a beast. It beat the original in 4 weeks, despite being a sequel (thus, worse legs) and having much stiffer competition. Marvel just cannot comprehend the word "loss".

Alien proves that if Rotten Tomatoes and critics have any influence, it's opening weekend only (like a good marketing campaign, which is what ultimately good reviews come down to when it comes to the general audience - good marketing, and that's it), cause legs don't matter for shit. It's the Spielberg theory - the marketing team sells OW, the director sells the legs.

That was expected of it. POTC II made 400 M plus in 2006. TRANSFORMERS II made 400 M plus in 2009. The competition is not even stiff with releases after releases underperforming. Still, a finish of 370 M - 380 M is great for my summer game. lol

Did you miss the opener this weekend?

even that is not a flop. So the statement stands.

Studios like Paramount or Sony would kill for a movie that will make what Pirates will worldwide.

It's a "miss" in terms of Disney juggernauts but it's still probably going to do $700m+ WW.

Thinking Pirates might go sub XMA. It has a lot of competition second weekend and drop 60%.

Will be close, but I think it goes slightly over thanks to family appeal.

I mean hopefully that means he'll do some other interesting projects instead

honestly another Alien movie with a medium budget, a release date in February or August or something, and in 3D would probably still be an OK bet. Might be time for a different director though

And why Valerian will do under Beast's OD for domestic gross.

You've said like 10 variations of the "lol Valerian will flop" joke in the past 2 days

its 7 day OS gross was less than 20m. No way its going to make another 100m WW. It has opened everywhere.

Domestically it will be  hit hard next weekend by Wonder Woman.

I don't think it will drop hard because of WW, i see both co-existing.

I can see + $ 55m domestic, and more $ 15 - 20m OS, for totals around $ 850 - 860m.

Pretty much locked. Small chance it misses a 2x multiplier as well.
