It definitely hurts SW that Jedi don’t have any flashy powers and they hardly use their telekinetic abilities in fights. It just simple saber fights. Whereas superhero movies can have so many combinations of powers in a fight scene that makes it more exciting.

The force users have only used Telekinesis, lightning powers and mild telepathy in the movies as far as I can remember. Tony’s suit in IW had more and varied powers than that.

This isn’t reaching 200 overseas, I think. Where will it find an extra 85 million after a 30 million weekend and with Jurassic world 2 opening this week in many overseas markets ? It has to really overperform in Japan to have a chance at 200 million.

45M more OS and 35M in Japan gets it to 195M OS. 45 might be optimistic considering Jurassic World and the World Cup coming up.

And 30m without any new market would be in the good range for franchise entry drop lately from a 65m start (-54%). Deadpool 2 went from 176 to 57 (-67.6%).

 

0 Competition, starting low, ok reception, Star wars being on the leggier side of franchises usually all helping I would imagine.
