Just got home from Pirates 5 and no surprise: I FUCKIN LOVED IT! The humor really worked. It is the funniest movie of the series. And while it is not on the level of the first three movies, it is definitely better than the fourth one. Also, surprisingly, the new co-leads really worked! I really cared for them, which is a change from how I felt about the guy and the girl in the fourth.

And that after credits scene!! Can't wait for the next one!

I am just sorry for WW this weekend here. POTC5 had one of the best OWs ever and the WOM is amazing (8.5/10 on the biggest movie site here). I also think the legs OS will be very good.

As for trailers, I got WW, Thor 3, Spidey, TLJ. Thor got a great reaction.

I really would like another, but right now I am not sure if it will happen. It's up in the air

I really think it will happen. As I said, I expect good legs OS. It is a perfect summer movie. 800M-ish WW will be enough to push Disney to make another one, especially seeing how it is doing very well in China. They will probably add some Chinese actors. And the merch is huge for this.

GOTG2 with $2.21M DROPPED just 35% From last Tuesday, its beating  Ulron and Civil War on a daily basis despite opening much lower, if it holds well next weekend, $390M is a logic target then!!

AGE OF ULTRON

Tue $1,949,182
-70% / -35.5%
$413,318,567 / 26

CIVIL WAR

Tue $1,548,605
-66.4% / -46.4%
$379,029,062 / 26

Really thinking about it....

if GOTG 2 released in August like the first one it would have done Civil War and IM3 numbers domestically with no competition and an empty market.

Spiderman Homecoming could have easily done well in the May slot.

The Merch is good for this but pales in comparison to other Disney properties and the theme parks help sell it as well.

I think it will do $800m or so but that is a $200m drop from the last one with an increase in China not really offsetting the Domestic decrease in terms of actual profit.  So while they will make money on it they have to wonder if #6 will drop again and they won't make any profit and if they could make far more directing $400m or so (movie + marketing) elsewhere.

Considering 2011 had hugely better ER and the 3D was at it's peak, the fall is really not that bad. And while Disney may have bigger properties, this is still a huge (especially OS) player. I doubt Disney will throw that away just because they have SW or TA. Plus, if they market the return of

Spoiler

Will/Elizabeth couple and Davy Jones

well it should maintain interest.

GOTG Vol 2, at the same point, had a better drop than ALL MCU movies released in MAY. (Iron Man I, II and III, Avengers I and II and Civil War).

Setting precedence for MCU May releases for sequels.

Although one would argue had it opened higher, 160'ish or better, could not have sustained its current run and would've behaved pretty much like those you've mentioned.

390 is within range right now from a 145m opening weekend, impressive.
