And to think, if they had stuck with the original release date, we wouldn’t be having this discussion...

Why are WB execs always leaking things to the trades?

If studios are so concerned about snagging good dates when things clear up they should just take every movie off the schedule set for the rest of the year and all of 2021 and sort it all out when it becomes evident that life will start returning to normal (which clearly isn't in the foreseeable future). Just hit the reset button and go from there.

The talks probably went as far as the Michael B Jordan Superman movie (I actually would like to watch that), which is nowhere.

Edit: I'm pretty sure every studio has had a similar conversation at least once for one of their upcoming blockbusters, which again, probably went nowhere.

I'd rather have this discussion than a dreaded 'Did Joker hurt WW84 as it took away the incel crowd' discussion if it had stuck to its original date.

A realistic, slightly pessimistic prediction is that the pandemic will last 18 months. If theaters do stay closed for that long in much of the world, I can see studios releasing movies online one way or another - even their potential biggest blockbusters like WW84.

No they wouldn't. Bcoz in those 18 months, not only would they not be able to release blockbusters theatrically, but also not be able to shoot new blockbusters. Which means if they shoot their load prematurely by releasing currently waiting for release blockbusters on streaming, they would have no blockbusters for at least another year AFTER COVID-19 subsides.

That... would pretty much kill the movie-going business.

Right but the alternative is $0 for the rest of 2020 from their movie division. I can also see movie production restarting earlier than theaters reopening, or studios feeling confident enough to release a blockbuster in theater.

Anyway a streaming release would only be considered if the pandemic lasted for more than a year, so let's hope it doesn't come to that - for WW84 and all of us.

Nobody is going to buy an HBO subscription just to watch 1 movie, however going to SKY cinema PPV, it could make a killing.

I think this is true, but HBO offer a free trial, even if it is no a sensible model, for some one or 2 time stunt maybe you can attract people that would get a 7 days free trial to watch a movie and forget to unsubscribe (or like once they try it)

They don’t have to make any decision until early May and given WB recent marketing strategy, by then, they won’t even start the marketing push other than a magazine covers here and there.

So that previous leaked image was legit, huh?

Also, why is Steve brunette lol. I have watched the trailer so many times and I still haven't noticed his hair color.

Yeah if WB were to release this on streaming, it would be the end of theaters. Full stop.

I'm cautiously optimistic that the spread will have died down enough by may for theaters to reopen by June or July at the latest. they may only have to move by a few weeks/a month. or not at all. I don't see why they would officially postpone it so early when it is still over two months away. the spread in China has already died down greatly. and if this is the first blockbuster to be released. it does have the potentially to do even better then before.

No it wouldn't. Once this virus scare is over things will go back to normal, eventually. with hopefully people a little more health conscious then before.
