According to Scott Mendelson, budget for this movie is just 14 million. So, perhaps it won't flop at all...

Mendelson also says we should watch Proud Mary ( no matter if it's good or bad, yes he writes that ) because maybe we won't get another chance of seeing a black hitwoman kicking ass like Liam Neeson.

If true, that figure of 14m, I doubt it has much chance to flop like said above it could do over 100% of is budget in the domestic market OW.

The movie trailer's metrics are really good and it's marketing budget seem way bigger than it's production budget, a good sign:

Also of note: “Proud Mary” had the best iSpot Attention Index (135) in the ranking, getting 35% fewer interruptions than the average movie ad (interruptions include changing the channel, pulling up the guide, fast-forwarding or turning off the TV).

And it is in some of the genre/target audience that care the less about critics/reviews/RT.

It’s well over an hour into Proud Mary before we hear Tina Turner’s cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Proud Mary.” It plays over an absolutely stunning sequence in which Taraji P. Henson’s hitwoman Mary speeds through Boston, gets her car pumped with bullets, and gets her John Wick on shooting up a gaggle of gun-toting men. It’s a shame you have to sit through the rest of the movie to see it. The answer to why Sony has tried to bury Proud Mary from critics is now clear: It’s boring as hell.

Hey when its a Black Screen Gems movie, that's all you'll get. I live in Brooklyn, and made sure I saw this in a Manhattan theater in the morning to avoid this.

Out of all Black Screen Gems movies, they decide to not market "Proud Mary"? Ever since 2014’s “No Good Deed,” Black Screen Gems have only relied on their audience for money opposed to critic reviews because Black people will practically see anything as long as a Black actor they recognize star in it. They had “Obsessed,” “The Perfect Guy,” “When the Bough Breaks,” the list goes on.

Why can’t I shake the feeling that this was shot in less than 20 days and then reshoots were done in one and were shot with a Canon T3 cameras? In so many scenes where you see Mary sitting at a desk, a Canon camera is just there while you know that it was most likely used whenever their Panavision rental lease was up. There are often occasions where the shots would switch in and out of picture quality in several moments that it's evident that it's done out of filling in missing shots opposed to a stylistic decision.

“Proud Mary” is a lame and cheaply made Black Screen Gems film that won’t probably work for its demographic due to its slow pacing and dull execution. It shows Henson is a great action star but this movie isn’t worthy of her amazingness. And hey Screen Gems/SONY next time when you decide not promote one of your releases make sure it’s for a movie that is actually terrible other than something that is just meh. Save your shitty marketing for a film that deserves your shitty marketing.
