CAYOM - New Franchise Rights Thread

Okay so... fishing for opinions here.

I want to do a GoBots movie. But I looked it up and, apparently, Hasbro bought the rights in 1991 and, in a Q&A feature on their website, retroactively declared that the GoBots cartoon was a canon "alternate universe" in TF lore. Essentially they had a GoBot take over the Q&A section and answer questions about his cartoon in-character, referencing it as canon. Apparently there was also a web-exclusive crossover comic between GB and TF.

So my question is this: Is this web gag a solid enough tie to declare GoBots is officially part of Transformers and thus the rights aren't available? Or is it okay if I take it since it's not addressed in any of the Transformers movies or other mainstream media?

EDIT: Apparently Tonka still owns the rights to the old cartoon, technically speaking, and Bandai owns the original character designs... it's very confusing.

I would believe it's a separate franchise despite it's links to Transformers. Plus, I'd say if Hasbro can own the rights to Transformers and Tonka/Bandai can still own the rights to GoBots I'd say it's reasonable you could do the same in CAYOM.

Has no one taken Uncharted yet?

Not this go-round. I think it's technically reserved for CJohn til Y2 though since he had the rights in 2.0.

@cookie Apparently no one has ever claimed Voltron, so yeah, you're good.

Good, since I think I can put one together over the weekend. Gonna need some help with the casting though.

  • The Road to El Dorado (I want to reboot the franchise as a live action adventure a la Indiana Jones)

Goddammit I re-watched El Dorado yesterday and I just thought of that.

Guess I'll have to make do with a Sinbad live-action remake then.:sparta:
