Saw the Valerian trailer in 3D yesterday.

HOLY SHIT THAT LOOKED SO FUCKING GOOD IN 3D!!

I never do 3D but last night I had to make an exception and I'm thinking I'll be making an exception when Valerian comes out.

If V becomes the 3D movie to watch, one can expect a leggy run.

Competition is big for it sadly:

  1. Dunkirk will open 35-40
  2. Apes 2nd weekend could be 30-35
  3. Spiderman will be doing 25-30 probably (115=>55=>25-30)
  4. V could be 4th with 20-25 at most? At that point I hope it legs to 85-90 dom.

Ive rewatched Spider-Man 3, a film i pretty much hated for years. But with a more open mind, its actually not that bad. Sure, there are way too many plotlines and villains, the effects have aged badly and Mary Jane is as annoying as ever - but its still entertaining. The movie has a rather fast pace and many of the dumb scenes are funny - peters emo dance is one of the funniest scenes in any comic book movie imo, its hilarious, despite the cringe.

Still not a good movie but i cant hate it anymore. Its watchable and miles better than both the amazing spider mans (first one is boring as sh*t and the second on of the most hilarious abominations of Hollywood history).

The 1st half of SM3 is really good. I like Sandman and it's tragic arc was well handled. The Peter-GG conflict is fun to watch. Peter-MJ schtick is similar to first two movies. You get the sense of scale that Raimi brings. Peter getting taken over the black goo was intriguing. Things went along at a good pace.

Then it starts loosing the plot. The evil Peter arc wasn't portrayed well, Venom is wasted, and the final fight at night with Sandman as a giant piece of turd was lazy.

Amazing how ASM2 repeats a lot about SM3:

Troubled, pitiable Max becoming Electro after inadvertently falling in a tub was similar to Sandman's story but they replaced the tragic arc with a resentful arc.

Harry's death (close friend of Peter) in SM3 similar to death of Gwen (in love with Peter).

Rhino wasted like Venom as the 3rd villain.

Final fight has Peter fighting 2 villains with his girlfriend in the mix. (though some of this is common to many movies. SM2 also had MJ present in the end)

Theres a good movie in there somewhere, it was just too jam packed with material. I would've like to see the sandman stuff and venom thing if there'd had been a 4th raimi Spider-Man. Maybe recast venom with a better actor.

I was talking to my mom about Spider-Man earlier this morning, and she brought up War for the Planet of the Apes and how she heard it's not good outside of a single scene. I then explained to her the POWER OF THE TOMATO.

Huge difference between #2 and #3.

Remember last year we got to like November without a $200m movie?

This year we've already had 2 movies stop in the low $200m range: Logan and Furious 8.

And we're gonna have a third one with DM3.

But yeah, atm it's not much different than last year, when you had four 300M+ makers monopolizing their respective months of the Summer and then everything else collapsing to sub 175M best case scenario.
