I Feel Pretty | April 20 2018 | STX | Amy Schumer starring. Michelle Williams, Emily Ratajkowski and Rafe Spall. Gender swapped Shallow Hal like concept

Recommended Posts

Deadline:

"STXfilms is always keen to defend the frugality and economics of their movies, and in this case they contend they only have a 50% exposure on combined acquisition and P&A expenses of $45M, however one film finance executive exclaimed last night to Deadline, “Tough to see how this picture breaks even…STX will need to have net revenue of ~$53mm plus interest from all domestic markets to avoid losing money.”

...

in this case P&A was around an estimated $30M."

I guess that breaks down to an acquisition cost of $15M with P&A of $30?

How does STX need $53M in net revenue if they're only on the hook for $22.5M? Maybe it's distributor's net of $53, which they split 50/50? So a DOM gross of $100ish?

Deadline is so confusing sometimes.

Wonder if it’ll get a bump for Mother’s Day the following weekend or if Life of the Party will cancel out any difference.

I gave the film a 5/10 score in the Review thread because I really disliked the events of the final 1/3 of the film. That being said, I can easily envision viewers enjoying the film if they do not react as negatively to the final third as I did. It definitely is better than Snatched.

There are some amusing moments in the film and the characters are likeable, except for the guy playing the brother to Michelle Williams’ character. Speaking of which, Williams is fascinating. Her character and performance alone are enough for me to recommend the film to anyone seeking some light, comedic fare.

I really enjoyed this too.

Way better than Snatched.

People judged the message of the film based on the trailer. They really got it wrong.

thought it was really heartwarming.

Then the trailer did a poor job of selling the film...

do you guys consider this a flop? underperformance? or what? for me its an underperformance. i guess amy will be a one hit wonder

It was tracking at $12-14m and opened to $16m so I wouldn’t call it an underperformance.

STX also acquired it for $15m. It looks like it’ll make $45m+ and I think it’ll do well in streaming, it’s that kind of film.

Looks like it’ll outgross Snatched worldwide and cost less. So I’d say it’s a modest hit.

But yes, Amy wrote Trainwreck but didn’t write the other two. Maybe she should write her next project if she wants to get to Trainwreck level grosses again.

Yeh the trailer implies that it’s “ha she’s not pretty so this is funny”.

I Feel Pretty the film isn’t about image. It’s about confidence.

Everyone else in the film treats the lead character exactly the same both pre and post accident.

It really is a nice message.
