Based on a few anecdotes this week, some casual moviegoing friends all uttered some form of "Really? Another one?" when I told them I saw Spider-Man.

War looked too similar to Dawn. Nothing but wet Canadian forest.

Wonder Woman was coming off three poorly received DCEU films too.

Poorly received by critics but all the films had positive audience scores on all sites.

You can argue that SS had positive WOM from the GA. But MOS was certainly mixed and BvS was outright toxic.

Even when you look into RT, SM3, ASM1, and ASM2 all had better audience reception than MOS, BVS, and SS.

There's no fatigue (as in rejection) but there's no growth. I think that the genre peaked with TA as far as the boxoffice goes and eevrything else will make less, no matter how much critics praise movies or social media buzzes about them.

Oh, there's definitely capacity for growth. Wonder Woman hitting $400mil alone shows that. There just needs to be good franchise management.
