Onward has the potential to be a Best Animated Feature candidate. There's also:

Pete Docter's Pixar film

The WDAS film

Scooby (Spider-Verse showed that outside-IP films can win if they truly hit it out of the part)

Rumble (Paramount's film about monsters that wrestle--you never know)

the Lord/Miller film about the family and the robots

Vivo

Ron's Gone Wrong

(Plus any foreign/independent film that comes out of nowhere.)

So 2020 is certainly a more exciting year than, say, 2017.

Weathering with You also (unless Gkids decides for a limited release this year but I doubt that).

Yeah, that film is running for this year's award. But next year's theatrical release will be benefitted if it manages to be nominated. Of course, the foreign animation competition this year is competitive, let alone the competition around anime films.

I am predicting 100/350/1B WW. If its emotional I am hoping for a big china and japan breakout.

Agreed although slightly lower OW.

It benefits from being the first big film of 2020. Peter Rabbit 2 and Call Of The Wild and Sonic will all kill each other as they compete for families, and BOP I’m thinking will be more in the Winter Soldier numbers vs CM numbers. If the siblings and family theme hit it home, I can see it pulling a Frozen but lower DOM ($375M) and WW ($1.15B). Not to mention the Holland-Pratt star power will help it.
