Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two StringsAmulet I & II) has been tapped to direct The Legend of Zelda: Secret of the Guardians, the first installment in Cookie Pictures animated trilogy based on the Legend of Zelda franchise. "We think Knight was simply the ideal choice to helm this" Cookie Pictures President and CEO Sebastian Peters said of Knight's hiring. "The attention to character and atmosphere in his work is simply remarkable, and given how daunting of a task this will be for us as a studio, we think Knight's portfolio proves he's the right man for the job."

When asked if Knight will helm the entire trilogy, Peters said that wasn't under consideration. "We're looking at different directors for each film, in part to handle the workload and in part to give each film their own flair. It's what we're doing with Voltron and The Scavenger Wars and we see no reason to halt the tradition."

Peters confirmed during the press briefing that the film will employ cel-shaded computer animation, a technique similar to what Endless Animation has employed with their two largest box office hits Don't Let the Pigeon Drive and Can You Imagine?, which according to Peters is the best method to capture the look and feel of the source material (the main reference point being Breath of the Wild, the latest game in the series). With a production budget reaching $200 million, Secret of the Guardians will tie with the studio's last work The Number One Dime as the most expensive animated feature in the CAYOM era.

The Legend of Zelda: Secret of the Guardians is slated for a holiday Year 7 release and will have Stranger Things' Joe Keery and Kingsman's Sophie Cookson voice Link and Princess Zelda respectively. Jake Gyllenhaal and Thomasin McKenzie have been cast in unspecified supporting roles.

Fictional chairman Glenn Guthrie appeared at a special New Years Eve press conference to give more details to a change in the schedule that has been made at what can be described as the eleventh hour.

"New Journey Pictures Classics has decided to cancel the release of The Sandwich. In its place, NJP Classics had decided to place a new project:

The Mona Lisa

from director Julian Schnabel

The film chronicles the remarkably average life of Lisa del Giocondo, the subject of the iconic Mona Lisa painting. Felicity Jones is in early talks to play the historical figure. Jonsí (the lead singer of Sigur Ros) is in talks to create the film's score."

The announcement of the Mona Lisa film is the only announcement that Guthrie made during the conference, but he was sure to wish the press a Happy New Year.

"Drink responsibly, you know what I'm sayin'?"

PRODUCTION HALTS ON ROCK & ROLL HEART ATTACK FOR "NEAR-TOTAL REVAMP"

Not long after premiering a rushed teaser trailer at the Oscars, Gold Crescent Pictures has made the sudden announcement that Rock & Roll Heart Attack - which on-set sources estimate was "40 to 50 percent finished" with principal photography - is halting production. Producers and director Bill Condon are evidently unhappy with the current script, and an extensive rewrite is underway. "Almost everything from the end of the first act on is being tossed out," the source claims. This means that a large portion of the scenes that have already been filmed - including much of the footage used for the early trailer - will not make the final cut.

Allegedly, several cast members - who had not even yet been formally announced - are also being dropped from the project and receiving payoffs as their characters are being written out completely. The source estimates that the hiring of a new screenwriter, along with the discarding and replacement of previously-filmed material, will inevitably inflate the project's budget "by $30 million at a minimum." However, the studio is still planning to meet the currently-scheduled November Y5 release date. While the move will come as a major surprise to most, the source insists it has been a long time coming.

"This is a passion project for Bill Condon and for some of the higher-ups, and while they were initially happy with the current script, they've been questioning it since filming some of the key sequences. Cutting the awards teaser was probably the final straw where they saw the story visually outlined and thought it was missing the point. They watched the broadcast and felt like they had a bomb on their hands."

No details yet on what the new direction is, but the source describes it as "something less conventional than what had been planned."

At Eternity’s Gate was a very good film. Looking forward to this film a lot!

This makes me nervous.

I know it won’t but I was referring instead of the three superhero movies during the holiday. That said I can see all going over $100M, and two with a shot at $200M.
