It'll be basically a live action version of the first film, while hoping to spark an Indiana Jones-style franchise.

I think an El Dorado remake would have to work out some of the original's structural issues (it basically has two third acts and what should have been the real third act never happens).

Care to elaborate? Legit question, I want to know how to make the movie better.

The first third act arrives way too quickly and doesn't end up having any real impact on the story (Tzekel-Kan summoning a giant stone jaguar to attack the duo which ends in him falling into the whirlpool) and the second third act exists to stop a third third act (the duo leaving El Dorado and using the boat to destroy the entrance to the city before the conquistadors arrive). I would have either made the stone jaguar scene the film's only climax or have a final confrontation between the duo and the conquistadors in a battle to save the city - the movie even sets itself up like it's heading that direction but it never happens and movie just ends up kinda stumbling to the finish line.

OR - the stone jaguar is summoned AND ends up helping in the battle against the conquistadors, possibly after seemingly being defeated?

Y2 BRINGS GOLD CRESCENT'S BIGGEST PIC - IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE

Gold Crescent Pictures is well on its way into pre-production on War of the Gods, an epic historical fantasy blockbuster pegged for release next summer. The movie will focus on the mythical gods of ancient Egypt as they are embroiled in a war for control of the mortal realm and underworld. Execs at TriCrescent Media acknowledge the risk here - Alex Proyas' very similar Gods of Egypt was a massive flop - but apparently this feature is a pet project of the CEO. Besides, they express confidence they can avoid what one rep called the "bizarre pitfalls" of that earlier picture and craft a movie with much broader audience appeal.

J.J. Abrams is in the final stages of negotiation to sign on as director. Per TriCrescent reps, the film will be their highest-budget endeavor yet, and by quite a significant margin, though no numbers were given. The studio was relatively modest in Y1, with their most expensive production the $125 million CG animated flick ReBoot, and their costliest live-action movie, He-Man, budgeted at $110 million. The hope of the CEO is apparently for War of the Gods to be the movie that really puts them on the map.

In addition to the large expenditure, the movie is going to be big in another way: TriCrescent has announced the movie will be the very first feature-length Hollywood film shot for exhibition at the full-height 1.44:1 IMAX aspect ratio for the entire duration of the movie. Previous films such as Pacific Rim and The Polar Express have been shown at full IMAX size in their entirety, but this was achieved by cropping off the sides of the picture that were visible in standard theaters. Polar Express was animated and Pacific Rim was shot on the Red Epic, a popular choice but not a true large-format camera. War of the Gods, we're told, will be shot primarily on 15-perforation IMAX film. Select shots and sequences in which the IMAX cameras would be impractical will instead be filmed in VistaVision, a large-format system that runs 35mm film horizontally through the camera (much as IMAX does with 65mm) and has a similar tall aspect ratio. The possibility of a 3D conversion has also been raised and will be discussed with Abrams should he sign on to direct.

War of the Gods has a preliminary planned release date of August 3rd next year, though the reps we spoke with acknowledged this was likely to change.

WHAT Y2 HOLDS FOR US... SO FAR

Following our not so mysterious tweet a few days ago, we'd like to officially announce that we're going to adapt the critically acclaimed video game 'To The Moon' to not one movie, not two movies, but three movies. It seemed obvious that 'To The Moon' is destined to be adapted to the big screen, and we're legitimately surprised that nobody else has done this yet. Probably the adaptations already exist in an alternate universe, maybe even done by us. After negotiations with the creator of the game, Kan Gao, we've developed a screenplay for the first movie, which will be a direct adaptation of the video game, and we've also presented him the ideas for a second and third movie, which will be original screenplays, to which he agreed. Stay tuned for director announcements, as well as casting.

The second movie we're working on is based on the famous rivalry between Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton in Formula 1, starting from the 2014 season and culminating with the 2016 season. That's pretty much everything we know about this project. Just like for To The Moon, stay tuned for director and casting announcements.
