Studio Groundswell is hard at work on their slate of upcoming Y9 films, but the studio is ready to confirm that action movie The Bone King is the unlucky film of the bunch that’s been postponed indefinitely. The reasoning involves the fast tracked production of the studio’s “princess and the frog” ensemble comedy, which has been retitled Tongue Tied and will be seeking peer review after its production wraps before finalizing its director. “One medieval times film at a time,” said a studio executive.

Studio Groundswell still holds on to the August 29th IMAX release date for a potential release but wishes to submit an open call to the other studios, as it doesn’t currently have any other potential IMAX films in development and is willing to give that IMAX slot to another studio who might want or need it (PM me or message me if interested).

Release Date Updates

- Go-Kart Gottlieb to be dumped in January

- The Last Victim to take The Bible Thief’s open spot on March 14th

- small mid-budget film to be conceived and thrown somewhere in April; Groundswell to deliberate on what it’ll be

- Oblique comedy thriller Good Manners about golfers to release on September 19th

- Tongue Tied to release on November (uh… is it 14th idk), the weekend after Airbender 2, in an apparent counterprogramming bid

- Groundswell still wants to release Super Monkey Ball somewhere but will wait before picking a date

News From Endless Entertainment Regarding The Y9-onward slate:

Spoiler

In a press conference today, Xavier B. Irving has announced that they’d be cutting back on the amount of films released a year onward due to production issues, personal fatigue and wanting increase quality output which Irving hasn’t been satisfied with for a while. The original plan was produce up to 8 films a year, which included 2 tentpoles, 2 animated features (one for the general audience and the other being more contemporary) and 4 other mid-budget and genre films which is now down to three films a year. As for the future, Irving noted that expect less films from the studio in the future, but promises to at least bring a film a year.

Notably, Green Lantern Corps: Evolution has been delayed to sometime Y10, away from the coveted May 2nd, Y9 date as @cookie’s Cookie Pictures The Hunted will take the slot. Irving insists it’s due to scripting issues and production delays and instead of forcing it out, wants to take the time.

This year, the three films will be:

- Endless Animation’s/Laika/Monkeypaw’s R-rated highly-anticipated modern-day Sleepy Hollow adaptation slated for October Y9.

- Endless Animation’s Duppy (working title, formerly known as Lesedi) slated for June Y9, retaining the previous date on the advanced schedule as well as Ashton Corbin (Twenty-Something) staying onto direct. Irving gave a tidbit of plot, noting that the film takes place in West Indian islands namely Barbados and lore behind the duppy, spirits left behind on Earth with unfinished business.

- Infinite Studios’ Joyride, a bombastic drama, which is directed by Angel Manuel Soto (Blue Beetle, Charm City Kings). Originally, the film was supposed to make the Y9 Film Festival but filming delays caused it not to make it time. Joyride tells the tale of two former childhood friends on the eve of starting high school, wind up going on the run.

All three will be covered in next month’s summary of these films from plots, casting to even some teasers.

Endless Animation has neared a deal with Bajan pop legend Rihanna to both write/perform an original song and help helm the soundtrack for their next animated feature, Duppy, which is slated for June 6th, Y9. Infinite Studios has slated HOOOOOPS, the latest and final installment of the Hoops Cinematic Universe for July 16th, Y9. The cast from the 3 Hoops movies and Bailee Buckets will all return for the installment as as our favorite hoopers find themselves competing for the US team in the Olympics. The budget will also see a sizeable increase to $35m-$50m as Irving has some faith in the project. LeBron James, who is returning in the film will not only star but help produce through SpringHill Entertainment as well as Giannis Antetokounmpo.

@PhoenixFireOfficial wishes everyone a happy 2022 and a happy CAYOM Y9.

The studio wants to officially slate its two Film Festival entries on a release date.

First, Tom McCarthy's The Next Good Day, starring Devin Druid, Kirsten Dunst and Katelyn Nacon, will not be a limited release, despite its small scale. Instead, it'll release nationwide straight away on June 20th Y9. Despite being slotted one weekend before the release of the highly anticipated sequel The Scavenger Wars Part IV, as well as after big movies such as DuppyHeremias and Xenoblade Chronicles, Phoenix Fire cites lack of direct competition in the adult-oriented film market.

As for Emily Harris' surrealist drama Death is Not My Friend, starring Hannah Rae, Olivia Thirlby and Natalia Dyer, it'll release on 4 theaters on October 3rd Y9, expanding gradually in limited scale, until its nationwide expansion on October 24th Y9. Phoenix Fire is utilizing Halloween season, as well as the beginning of awards season, to help the film's launch. The studio is aware that the film will likely not be a strong awards contender in any regard, but with no platform competition currently announced for October or early November, studio executives decided to take advantage of the momentary nonexistence of competition.

Slight alterations to Phoenix Fire Family Animation's debut movie, the Nickelodeon cartoon adaptation Invader Zim.

The director will no longer be Peter Avanzino, for creative reasons, but instead, his place is taken by Infinity Train creator Owen Dennis.

Similarly, for creative reasons as well, Ryan Reynolds will not be the star behind the voice of the character of Zim. The role will be taken by Bill Hader.

Invader Zim is scheduled to release on September Y9.

Phoenix Fire Entertainment is finally deciding to cut ties with director S. Craig Zahler, who was going to helm the studio's Grand Theft Auto adaptation. The decision, more than just political, is creative as well, as the studio is looking for a completely restructured, revised version of the film, and as such, Zahler's sensibilities as a filmmaker do not, in the vast majority of ways, represent Phoenix Fire's version, for the film.

Phoenix Fire also does not promise to resume working with Zahler anytime again in the near future, due to this aforementioned clash in artistic visions, derived from completely opposite political points of view between Zahler and the studio.

Henceforth, Phoenix Fire is proud to announce that the director of Grand Theft Auto will be none other than Liz Friedlander (American Horror Story, The Boys, Losers Weepers).

Grand Theft Auto is slated for release on Memorial Day Weekend Y9.

Studio Groundswell will be reviving and finishing the productions of faith drama The Bible Thief and gorilla glue girl biopic Grace and Mercy, and they will release as semi-fillers in carefully selected (yet ultimately unobtrusive) releases dates in Y9!

"Tiffany Haddish is happy with this decision," said a spokesperson.

Studio Groundswell is proud to announce a musical comedy called The Crummy Shindig. Mike Faist stars as an eccentric failing playwright who runs out of money and moves from New York City to a smaller town, where he's determined to scrounge up money, time, resources, and helping hands to make his musical a reality, even though the play's, well, uh... "Crummy." Ol Parker (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again) directs.

Rumor has it that the Endless Animation/Rihanna deal for Duppies goes even deeper. Apparently, a prominent scooper, Rihanna and Tony-winner Stephan Bray are co-writing the songs together as the movie is going down a more musical route. The songs itself are said to be heavily reggaeton based.
