I’m also just not sure what this movie is going to do overseas. Is the Joker name going to sell this movie?

Not sure about Asia, but hype in Europe should be close to US.

Audience should be ok with it (with the right expectations), but it's getting crazy in critics/fan circles nowadays, who knows with them.

One problem the film might have is that given that Scorsese's production company is one of the production companies involved, and that many of the behind the camera people..including one of the producers are associates of Scorsese, the film is going to be a lot closer to "Taxi Driver" or "The King Of Comedy" then your typical Comic Book Movie (the trailer screamed Scorsese) and I am not sure how the typical CBM fan is going to react. They scream they want new fresh takes on the charecters, but if anybody actually does that a lot of the fans are going to automatically hate it.

I am realty hyped for this movie..and that does not happen very often with me...and because they have kept the cost low it will make money, but not sure how the cbm crowd will receive it.

And although his name is not on the credits, Marty Scorsese is going to have a major influence on the film.

Yeah, I wonder about fan/average joe reception as well. This is not comic book movie at all despite using some DC characters and locations, even The Dark Knight and Logan are much closer to your typical cbm with action/set-pieces, good and bad guys.

It probably won’t have a particularly high Cinemascore rating. That much is safe to assume.

Is it just me, or have there been multiple outlines of the supposedly leaked script for this movie? I’m not going to spoil what I’ve read, but I’ve read so many different synopses that I have no idea which one, if any, is real. I know Zazie Beetz said that they changed the script during filming, but I have no clue if that’s the reason for all these different descriptions.

Only one of them is more or less real and the rest are fake.

I know loads of people who want to see this after the trailer came out. If the movie is good the sky could be the limit

Jeremy Conrad spoiled parts of the movie on Resetera. He also leaked the entire story for Aquaman like a few months before it released so I would trust him with this.

Do you know which Resetera forum? I'd like to keep an eye for future spoilers. or if you could send me the direct link to Joker spoilers. :)

I don't have Twitter so I assume this is from today?

The Joker is a essentially the most popular and famous pop culture villain of all time not named Darth Vader. Only Thanos comes close in the last 30 years IMO in getting to that* level.

55 million budget? It could make 75-90 million opening weekend off the name alone (if the stars align with crazy buzz about Phoenix's performance probably more).

Just like when people were questioning Venom, lol. Venom is the one of the most popular villiains/anti-hero/comic book characters of all time. I wasn't surprised at its total at all despite the bad buzz.

Thanos is nowhere near them. Essentially everyone knows Joker or Darth Vader. I bet many people have no frigging idea who that Thanos guy is...

Yeah, my Mum's a good bellwether for how much something/someone has permeated even the darkest recesses of pop culture. Can guarantee she doesn't have a clue who Thanos is. Avengers yes, Thanos no.

"Casual in it's nastiness...a punch to the gut"....

Yup.Sounds like a typical Scorsese Crime film... "Taxi Driver" "Goodfellows" "Casino" etc.

I repeat:he chose not to take screen credit, but, given the number of people  involved in the film who are pretty much Scrosese protégés. his influence on the film is going to be big..as the trailer showed.

"Screen credit", or more like he was rumored to be producing, and it didn't end up happening. But yeah, those influences have been mentioned for a while along with King Of Comedy and Tillinger Koskoff being involved (Bradley too since him and Todd are producing partners) is a great omen.

This has "smash hit" written all over it. Probably will do at least as well as "Venom" did last year, and given the low budget, might end up being the second-most profitable movie of the year, after "Endgame".

I think this movie will open huge but will drop hard. Having read the plot (which Vieweranon confirmed is true), it has edgy, cynical shit written all over it. Even if it the more problematic parts (mental illness) are executed well, the whole thing just feels like "what can we do to make this movie more and more cynical". It sounds like the "Life Itself" of superhero movies.

I'm not going to read the script but I'm mildly relieved it's taken the mean-spirited approach. The worst thing it could have done was to have its cake and eat it by making the Joker some kind of hero we root for (unless it does? In which case, that's bad).

It seems like the movie makes him sympathetic but also makes it clear that he is insane (think Michael Douglas from Falling Down). The biggest problems I have with the story is to do with his mother and the last act.
