Alright I'm gonna read the first book now and the rest of the series if I like the first one.  Sounds right up my alley.

The first four books are all fairly different in style really. I'd talk about later books but I haven't gotten to them yet.

That said my mom is a huge Stephen King fan and she did not like the first book at all.

With the first few books you'll be able to tell instantly what parts got yanked out to be part of the movie.

It's so weird what that Dark Tower movie turned into. I know nothing of the source material but I heard so many people say that it was so far away from the book it wasn't even funny. I don't understand why they would do that and make something that looks like a more generic Underworld clone instead?

The studios are hardheaded af.

A purist version of Dark Tower could be Game of Thrones popular if executed right.

But lets adopt something because it's popular while removing what made it popular. :bash:

I read the boards before signing up. Isn't he that guy who thought that everybody was racist if they didn't say something about Get Out every second?

Yes.  He also said something about Jing Tian not getting any promo for Kong while Brie Larson got more promo.  Jing Tian had like 5 sentences to say in the film and had a very minor role so it ended up being pointless to bitch about.

Precisely. Also hated movies that didn't feature minorities enough even if they have a minor role. He was pissed at Kong.

More complaints I don't get. Larson is an Oscar winner who is going to play Captain Marvel and according to you, had a much bigger role, of course she got more attention.

Going off what I said @That One Guy, the fourth book is interesting since about 75% of it is actually a giant flashback to basically a YA romance story with Western/Fantasy elements, with framing devices on either side.

Unsurprisingly Old Man Tele likes that book the least in the series.

When Get Out eventually started loosing theaters he said there was a conspiracy to get rid of the movie.

IT broke out for the same reason Jurassic World and BATB did - cross audience and cross generational appeal. In terms of audience, it was always guaranteed to get the horror fans - but because it was based on a critically acclaimed Stephen King novel instead of being some stupid slasher movie, it made it cool for me and my mom to rush out and see it, too. It had the Stand By Me/Stranger Things drama vibe to elevate it beyond being a horror movie. Also, kids who grew up on the miniseries as their first horror experience now have kids who are probably justtt old enough for their first horror movie, or pretty close - or they want to see it with their own parents out of nostalgia. The first R-rated horror movie that truly felt like a family affair. So instead of a typical horror audience of 18-25 year olds watching a slasher flick, you had a wider audience of several generations watching something with a degree of acclaim and non-horror credibility. Couple that with great marketing, an empty market, and Halloween season, well...
