Weekend thread | IT Floats again in its 4th weekend: 17.3M...Cruise and Kingsman fight it out for 2nd: 17.016 and 17.0

That would be disappointing for AM. But let's see. Maybe it improves over the day. That it still rises on MT could be a good sign (and a good indicator for the reliability of MT).
Flatliners is still above my (very low) expectations.

Coco doesn’t seem to have the issues that surrounded the TGD, the reviews will be out in October so we will get an idea how the film will be received.

The Star being released a week before Coco and against JL is like Smurfs and The Boss Baby all over again!

Except Boss Baby came out 1st:)...so to have the same analogy work, The Star would have to steal Coco's thunder:)...

15m ow is fine for AM. Could leg it to 3x and 45-50m dom.

The prod budget is only 50m according to Mojo and 60m according to Deadline.

It already has 59.5m OS and is on track for 100m+ OS (if it releases in China).

So global tally could end above 150m or 2.5-3x the prod budget.

The Star is going to make diddly squat compared to Coco

Maybe, maybe not...but it won't be the same situation as Boss Baby/Smurfs:)...there, an original took all the box office and press away from a tired sequel by coming out a week early...here, we've got 2 originals, with most thinking the 2nd one will swamp the 1st...

We'll see based on the 2 movies quality and coming advertising if that turns out to be true...Pixar is a behemoth, but they've had some BO misfires (TGD and even Cars 3) lately that never happened through the 2000s decade, so they aren't quite as unstoppable as they were before, nor is their product always assumed to be A/A+ by parents - there's starting to be a little more pause before hitting the ticket purchase buttons:)...

Theater update:

AM has been selling the most today. The first two showings sold about 35 tickets, and the show in 25 minutes is matching that right now.

Flatliners and Sexes have been selling about 6-8 tickets each show. Not great!

Kingsman and It have been pretty quiet.

Everything else isn't notable enough to comment on.

Have they? That's nice...I don't think i've ever seen it play in a crowded theater; Just with Lion King and that was me and two other people.

literally everytime i've got the trailer, i've heard either an adult or a kid complain that it looks like book of life

Nah, it was now or never. It's definitely not a bad PTA, but it won't be expanding beyond a few hundred more theaters.

Interesting that Victoria and Abdul is expanding more slowly. I can’t imagine it’s going to go super wide but it’ll be at 1000 pretty soon

It's supposed to be in 750 theaters next weekend, but I won't be surprised if it hits 1k then if the PTA this weekend is really great. Theaters like mine made the mistake of letting holdovers keep too many screens, and they're going to pay next weekend when barely anything will be gone.

This year, Gifted did 3.1m on is first wide weekend (1,150 theater) and went to 2000 the week after, maybe Battle of the sexes was much more established before this weekend (TIFF, star power, known story, etc...) and will not expend as well and should have made much more, but could it not have a similar pattern/performance ?
