To State the obvious, Sony isn't going to make an all female reboot of Men in Black after getting burned that badly with Ghostbusters. The all female aspect pretty much overwhelmed all marketing for the movie instead of selling the movie on it's merits.

Not having Will on board hurt ID4 Resurgence. I mean, the movie was shit and people never cared for continuation, and it had those bland leads (Lesser Hemsworth and That Generic Blond Flavor of the Week) but Will's return was the only thing that could save it.

In hindsight would have maybe been worth that 50 million paycheck yes, specially considering the replacement (I guess they didn't know who it would end up to be at that point).

That this on the fast track just shows how desperate Sony is for franchises.

They got two ..Spiderman and apparently Jumanji....but they lost 007. They are scrambling to fill the gap.

A MiB reboot/sequel was bound to happen no matter which studio had it. Don't blame unnecessary sequels/reboots syndrome on Sony.

Maybe, but giving it such a fast track has to be because of Sony is weak when it comes to franchises.
