The top 8 films of the year are sequels remakes and spin offs.

 

75% of the domestic top 20 this year are unoriginal.

Thing is that GB did manage a big 46m opening weekend. It's the wom (2.8x multiplier - bad for a comedy) that let it down.

 

Other movies like Girls Trip, Bad Moms, Kingsman1, 21JS, CI have opened lesser but have had great legs (3.5-4.0x) and reasonable budgets. As a comedy and from a beloved franchise, that 46 ow should have translated to 150-175 dom for a good movie. Hell if it was good the pre-ow buzz would have given a 50+ ow.

 

All the online hate does not matter if the movie is good. It didn't prevent GB from posting a healthy opening weekend.

Yeah, I've always wanted more Men in Black spinoffs. That Frank the Pug film could have been great. In all seriousness, I think I would have preferred the 21 Jump Street / Men in Black crossover, that sounds like it could have at least been crazy fun.
