When studios release a lot of movies that people do not want to see, you have a bad season. I would not read a lot of long term trends into this.  Just that luck would have it a bunch of movies that the public did not care to pay to see came out together.

Here is the thing: on  paper, the movies that underperformed looked like sure fire winners. Just goes to prove that  old Hollywood saying about guessing what the public wants to see: "Nobody Knows Nothing.".

I don't know about that. He's not that great of a director, not one who can elevate bad material (writing) at least. As soon as his name was announced I knew this was going to be a turkey unless a great script was there waiting. And honestly if there was a great script, the studio wouldn't have wasted it on Gray.

I watched this movie, a long time ago. I didn't know he was the "menacing dude" that was one of the suspects of the murders.

The theatre near me updated their schedule for the weekend last night. MIB:I has the one screen with preassigned seats, so I thought I'd see how sales for this weekend are going. They've sold a total of two tickets this weekend. 

 

Maybe it's too early, but as a very family oriented community, I know I usually buy my tickets a few days in advance, as I need to lock in the babysitter. 

 

With a bad rotten tomato score, I'm thinking that this is going to be an ugly weekend.

Definitely some duds at the box office but with Endgame, Aladdin already going great numbers and Wick and Pika doing solid numbers too it's not in a bad spot. Purely from a monetary viewpoint, Toy Story, Spidey and Lion King will do enormous numbers. Hobbs and Shaw should great numbers too. Hollywood and Scary Stories will likely do very well as well.

 

Don't think it's all that bad.

I'm starting to worry that Shazam,John Wick and HTTYD3 will be the only great tentpoles of  this year.Hopefully TLK,SM FFH and TS4 will reverse this shit.

Nah. We arelady had some great films in Rocketman, John Wick 3, Booksmart and Lion King and Toy Story 4 should be very good too
