This has been a baaaadddd summer so far

When studios release a lot of movies that people do not want to see, you have a bad season. I would not read a lot of long term trends into this.  Just that luck would have it a bunch of movies that the public did not care to pay to see came out together.

Here is the thing: on  paper, the movies that underperformed looked like sure fire winners. Just goes to prove that  old Hollywood saying about guessing what the public wants to see: "Nobody Knows Nothing.".

yikes at those reviews, who thought that hiring Transformers TLK writers would've been a good idea. Gary deserved better.

I don't know about that. He's not that great of a director, not one who can elevate bad material (writing) at least. As soon as his name was announced I knew this was going to be a turkey unless a great script was there waiting. And honestly if there was a great script, the studio wouldn't have wasted it on Gray.

No replacing this guy either.

No lie, when I was a teenager, there was this weird guy around our age who we used to call the "Roach Alien from MIB" 'cause he talked exactly like this dude. :hahaha:

The curse is that his agent only picks him the absolute worst non-mcu projects, with some very rare exceptions slipping through the cracks

As Michael Cain said of his appearance in the critically panned Jaws 4

Quote

"Somebody said, 'Have you ever seen Jaws 4?' I said, 'No. But I've seen the house it bought for my mum. It's fantastic!'"

I don't care what anyone says. Hemsworth's best non Marvel film involves him in a short cameo alongside Timothy Olyphant in the underrated thriller "Perfect Getaway".

I watched this movie, a long time ago. I didn't know he was the "menacing dude" that was one of the suspects of the murders.

The theatre near me updated their schedule for the weekend last night. MIB:I has the one screen with preassigned seats, so I thought I'd see how sales for this weekend are going. They've sold a total of two tickets this weekend.

Maybe it's too early, but as a very family oriented community, I know I usually buy my tickets a few days in advance, as I need to lock in the babysitter.

With a bad rotten tomato score, I'm thinking that this is going to be an ugly weekend.

Jesus, at this pace this Summer is going to surpass the 2017 one as the worst of decade both Box Office, and critically-wise.

Definitely some duds at the box office but with Endgame, Aladdin already going great numbers and Wick and Pika doing solid numbers too it's not in a bad spot. Purely from a monetary viewpoint, Toy Story, Spidey and Lion King will do enormous numbers. Hobbs and Shaw should great numbers too. Hollywood and Scary Stories will likely do very well as well.

Don't think it's all that bad.

I'll still see this just for Chris and Tessa but yeesh. This is shaping up to be the most tragic summer overall since 2006.

Nah. We arelady had some great films in Rocketman, John Wick 3, Booksmart and Lion King and Toy Story 4 should be very good too

Despite the mixed reviews I've heard great things about El Royale.

Despite the $110M-production cost being floated out there, we hear the net before P&A cost on Men in Black: International is actually under $100M (per those with knowledge of the budget, not studio sources). We hear co-finance partners Hemisphere and Tencent are each in for just under 18% each, helping to reduce Sony’s risk. Already working in the pic’s P&A favor is $75M through a number of largely high-end promotional partners like Lexus cars and Paul Smith suits.

I heard Tencent Pictures got their share after Sony told them this film cost $190M.

In other words, Tencent paid them $30M+(27%+) actually but only gained 18% share...

Rothman burning his investors - sounds like him but not wise or good business in the long run.
