Will Dwayne Johnson ever make a blockbuster which takes itself seriously enough to be considered truly great ?

The One Billie question IMO as far as Dwayne Jphnson career is concerned.

No and I'm happy he won't. Movies like this are his bread and butter. Why try to play with that in order to be taken "seriously" when you can make a shit ton of money making highly entertaining big budget blockbusters. He is smart in letting the people who know how to handle those types of blockbusters make them and he sticks to what he does best.

This is gonna be huuuuuuuuge. it gives its audience everything they want - Dwayne/Jason chemistry (interaction is insanely good, an all-timer), badassery (these guys have real movies cause they are the real deal and it's a huge bonus over phonies), Elba Motherfuckers as the baddest motherufcker, superheroics with cars (there movies understand by now that they are capekino with cars), cool life style, hot women wearing skimpy clothes, cool music. Yeah, OS will lap it up and dom won't be too shabby either.
