Just wanna throw it out there that as late as September few including me were thinking this one will be lucky to do 100m dom :P (in fact had it at 85 dom). Only off late have expectations raised to Mad Max numbers so we shouldn't be harsh on the film if it does less than 45 ow or something. Hoping the previews cross 4m at least.

Because we still haven't learned to stop basing GA awareness/hype off fanboy-driven websites who studios always allow first screenings, knowing what easy lays (and loud mouths) they are. Then the film drops, the craziness dies down. Followed by them downplaying their own hyperbolic reactions with revisionist claims of "I never REALLY liked it!"

Why would WB be listed as the main studio then? You'd think SONYs name would be all over this.

Alcon owns the rights and WB gets to distribute Domestically (I think because of a prior deal with them).  WB did not finance it though.

Warner Bros. is distributing the Alcon Entertainment co-financed sequel for a domestic distribution fee estimated at about 10%. Sony took foreign, and while they also co-financed Blade Runner 2049 with reportedly $90M of the production cost before rebates and tax credits, they do not co-own it.

The domestic distributing studio is almost always listed as the main studio even if they don't finance it or another studio is co-financing it.  See Marvel when they were distributed by Paramount.

Super early number. Probably not right. Wouldn't be shocked if it hits anywhere from 3.7 to 4.

Also, I just wanna point out that THR's "review" of My Little Pony is the laziest bullshit ever - "it's just as bad or worse than Emoji", and it doesn't say how or why, it just says that without even attempting to elaborate. And I don't care about that movie, nevermind stan for it, but I noticed that and couldn't help but roll on the floor at some people's laughable self-righteousness.

It, Sexes, and Princess and the Frog have sold nothing. Letting It keep two screens is looking to be a PERFECT decision

Comparisons for BR:

20% of It (it's on par with It's second Friday, though)

45% of Kingsman

70% of AA

80% of THB

MLP has sold 80% of Ninjago. Again, I don't have good comparisons for MBU, but it's waaay ahead of Home Again and 75% of AA.

Titanic was like 200 minutes long...Revenant 160....and both did so well. i dont think running time will be a reason this underwhelmed

And let's not forget a little indie about blue indigenous cat-people in outer space battling a big bad corporation. I hear it did quite well for a 2-hour-42-minute film...

The first BR at Disney Springs has only sold 30 tickets, and the next one has sold VERY little. The Dolby Cinema at Altamonte is looking pretty solid today, but the IMAX at the same theater is looking pretty meh until the evening. Pointe Orlando's IMAX and 4DX are looking pretty light too. Dunno. These sales aren't really encouraging.

Blade Runner wasn't turned into an action movie or franchise for today's audiences.  Bravo to Denis Whatshisname, Ridley Scott, and Hampton Fancher for not going that route to make it more accessible to $$$$

But if you're gonna do that...and not really open up the movie to non-fans...you better either appropriately guesstimate your total fan base and/or appropriately size your budget.  It does no good to make a $150M masterpiece if it causes a $50M-$100M loss for your studios...

(Now, I'm not saying this movie will ultimately be a money loser, so don't jump on me yet when we only have a kinda Thursday number - I'm speaking in general:)...

Maybe they should had a deal on Atom ;)

TBH I imagine from WB and Sony’s POV, Blade Runner 2049 wasn’t likely to be a big moneyspinner but they’ll reap the rewards later on.

This is adult skewed and I think is gonna be very backloaded like 15x-18x the previews

Movies in general tend to be now and some of those used are R-rated/very old franchise like Blade Runner.

Cinemascore/posttrack demo for the first weekend

Apes: 64% over 25

Kingsman: 74% over 25 (the first one was just at 60% to show the strong tendancy)

MadMax: 54% over the age of 35
