It’s pure unadulterated flashy, show-off joy of filmmaking techniques: gonzo, in-your-face cinematography and sound design. The story is basic to the point of being generic, but the filmmakers use that as framework to play around with nonlinear time: looping, replaying moments from different perspectives, skipping back way or even jumping out of the main story to explore what could be moments of character back story or dreams. All that combined with a love and slavish recreation of spaghetti westerns and 1970s European exploitation flicks.

@The Stingray how the heck haven’t you seen this yet?

I was on the fence about watching it. I have seen the directors' other two films, Amer and The Strange Colour of Your Body's Tears, and to my surprise they weren't my cup of tea. But since you're singing its praises, I'll give it a go.

Happy New Year from NZ, people of BOT.

Not gonna do another one of my famous lists with all the doodles and stuff this year because a) a forum update earlier in the year makes all the images uploaded to the forum compressed and ugly which simply shall not do for my art and b) I've been playing RDR2 all week and it is consuming my life.

Here's my list so far anyway, for those who care:

https://letterboxd.com/aabattery/list/2018-ranked/

Annnd the top ten of that list of 65:

1 - Buster Scruggs

2 - Leave No Trace

3 - First Man

4 - Into the Spider-Verse

5 - Mission Impossible

6 - The Rider

7 - Shoplifters

8 - The Old Man and the Gun

9 - A Star Is Born

10 - Game Night

Hope y'all have a good 2019.

Need to see Buster Scruggs and Leave No Trace.

Anyone seen Burning, a South Korean movie that's gotten a lot of hype?
