Tonight I finally caught up on the HBO "Perry Mason" miniseries.

Like most people who grew up on the classic..and still widely shown and watched Raymond Burr TV show..i first went WTF?

I approved of setting it in 1931..when the first Perry Mason Novel was written..(the last was published in 1973,over 80 in all.Earl Stanley Gardner might have been the most profolic writer in history. He makes Stephand King and Agatha Christie look like slackers)but the Mason in the first episode was almost unrecognizible. He was a cut rate PI living from case to case, working for a lawyer. It was only later we learned he was a lawyer who has given up practicing law.

But in the second episode I got we were seeing a origin story of how Perry Mason, failed lawyer and second rate PI became Perry Mason, the brilliant defense attorney.

Of course, Mason fans know that Officer Paul Drake, a black LAPD cop in a racist department will become Mason's chief Investigator and right hand man.

So remember how Dan Synder was set to annouce the new name of the team today?

Yeah, about that:

Tons of Redskins nickname options have been trademarked by a guy in Virginia (Yahoo Sports)

That guy, Philip Martin McCaulay, is located in Virginia (according to the trademark application), and describes himself as an author and actuary on the website he set up for a few of these nicknames. There are pages for the Warriors, Monuments, Arrows, Veterans, Pandas, Founders, Federals and Red-Tailed Hawks.

The site seems to exist purely to establish or maintain the trademarks. At the top of every page is a basic title followed by one-sentence descriptions of “Number of Players,” “Scoring,” and “Winning.” It’s spectacularly low-rent, and the possibility that Snyder and the team are fighting with this guy over the new name for their 88-year-old franchise is, well, hilarious.

Quote

When did McCaulay file the trademark for the Washington RedTails? July 5, just two days later. If Snyder doesn’t get his first choice, or he has to pay a bundle for it, all he needs is a mirror to find out who to blame.

I hate trademark trolls, but this is quite funny on more than one level.

The more Dan Snyder gets fucked, the better (and funnier).
