Just saw Jenny Slate is dropping out of Big Mouth for voicing an black character. Just remembered during the Honest Trailer for the animated Mulan earlier this year they pointed out most of the voices were white people because it was still the 90s. If Coco were made 20 years earlier it too would've been mostly voiced by white people.

i remember when The Last Airbender (movie) released and people complained about white washing, it was bad but they were holding the show up as some paragon of diversity but the cast of the show was whiter than the movie really.

They also just announced a biracial character voiced by Kristen Bell will be replaced with someone of the correct ethnicity on an animated Apple show too. Nice to see the push for diversity is also stretching to animated fare as well.

And speaking of animation Sony Pictures Animation is apparently working on an R-rated animated movie. Sausage Party was made by some outside studio so this is gonna be a first.

In the article they mention more action-oriented fare so maybe we will see surge in more mature-themed animated films since physical productions are gonna be altered a while. They also mention PG-13 movies too so it doesn't sound like these movies will be built around one joke like Sausage Party was.

Sad thing is a lot of people will go "Sidney Who?'

 

I think "Network" is his best film. It is scary how in 1976 that film predicted what television news has become nowdays.

Everybody knows the Howard Beale I am Mad As Hell speech, but IMHO Ned Beatty's speech is just as good.

Fun Facts from Germany to lighten the mood a bit (albeit in a more black humour way):

 

Since 2006 (!), Berlin is building a new airport (BER) to replace the old Berlin airport, Tegel. Originally, that new airport should have been opened in 2011. But numerous technical issues prevented the opening, including a non-functional fire warning system and imploding (!) air handlers. Then it should have opened in 2012, but until that point, the fire warning system still didnt work at all and furthermore, the ceiling of the airport appeared to be instable and the whole construction plan had to be reworked. Since atleast then, the project has become a meme and a running joke in Germany. Some people supported the idea to just build a new Berlin around the airport; it may be less costly.

 

In 2019, reports came to light that the airport may finally open in Spring of 2020. That got delayed again to the autumn of 2020 where the airpoirt is now officially schedulded to open.

 

But it may face the difficulty now that ... well ... there are not many planes flying around right now and the situation may be not much better in autumn. So ...
