ShouldIBeHere
These are two tweets by Sharon Tal Yguado who is head of event series at Amazon: Ask your Echo “who is Aragorn?” #LordOfTheRings Ask your echo “Which character is not affected by the power of the one ring?” #LordOfTheRings Could all be some meaningless teasing... but it might also hint at the possibility of the series being about Aragorn's adventures as a younger ranger (which led him through huge parts of Middle-earth). As he was also guarding Eriador such a series could very well feature Tom Bombadil whom the second tweet is probably referring to. James
With Christopher Tolkien stepping down now, how fast do you guys think The Silmarillion rights will be sold? Considering reports surfacing that The Estate-Amazon thing is a follow up of Christopher deciding to quit, I bet the Estate will sell the rights in less than a year. If they asked 250m for the television rights to LOTR (apparently what WB had was only the movie rights; Tolkien never sold the TV rights), I am sure they will ask for another enormous amount of money and I bet any studio in Hollywood would be happy to oblige, since they can get a 10 movie series from that book. Christopher was very reluctant of selling rights, the new leadership... not so much.
Fancyarcher
I'm not sure a Silmarillion adaptation would be easy though. It's a complicated incomplete piece of writing. You're gonna need a real genius to pull it off anyway (hopefully the series has just that).

So, much of it would have been "fan fiction" anyway, to fill in the blanks.

Hence the "not sure" bit. It's gonna have to be a real "uphill" adaptation in order to 100% adapt. If they do adapt it, I'm curious how they will. Hopefully it's good. Dementeleus
The Silmarillion Expanded Universe. Not even joking.
4815162342
Basically you can adapt various pieces of it and fill in time gaps with exposition as to the backstory. Most of the really big stuff to adapt pretty much begins with the Dagor Bragollach and the duel of Fingolfin vs. Morgoth.
The Panda
Yeah, you could make Silmarillion movies by pretty much saying "(Insert Title): A Middle Earth Story"
ShouldIBeHere
There are at least three stories that would make amazing movies or series out of the older tales set in Middle-earth: Beren and Luthien The Children of Hurin The Downfall of Numenor Unfortunately only "The Downfall of Numenor" would at least mostly be covered by the rights Amazon has. They are all really a mixture of fantasy and Greek or Shakespearean tragedies. Very dark fantasy with some battles that are bigger than anything in the War of the Ring - and often with a bad outcome for the "good side" (a good side that is often much less "good" in these tales, including the three kinslayings of the Elves). Just saying: Balrogs riding dragons. Edited November 21, 2017 by ShouldIBeHere

Just saying: Balrogs riding dragons. The Downfall of Numenor would be great. Sauron turning a divine and incredibly powerful race of men into Aztec-like human sacrificing devil Melkor worshippers would be awesome. You'd actually get to see him as a character as well. Children of Hurin is what I want to see most though.
4815162342
A Gondolin-centric story would be cool too. It'd tie in with a Hurin story as well as anything else that stems from the Battle of Unnumbered Tears so it could be a little tricky to integrate. Omario
The rise and downfall of Numenor has the potential to rival game of thrones. It is without a doubt the most epic tale in the whole Tolkien universe.
MovieMan89
So excited for this now that it’s a prequel to the films and not a remake of lotr. There’s just zero need to mess with PJs perfection and redo that saga. This has so much more potential.
James
The official account for the series just posted this map. It extends way more in the east than the official Middle Earth maps have in the past. People theorize that the forests and mountains from the far east are where the Elves are said to have awakened. So second to third age events. Maybe we will get the last aliance or smth like that.
