riczhang
I wonder how much Barker will go behind the scenes and tout the fact that she's coming to America on 10+ hour flight just for the Oscars. That's sure to grab some extra votes for her. She's 86 come Oscar day and Academy members will vote for her because they don't want her to waste a trip at her age. He needs to publicise this more, though I don't doubt he already is working this angle hard as well. He was the only person resolutely confident that Amour would strike gold on Oscar morning. And another really sweet part from her interview with The Wrap: How did you react to the Oscar nomination?I found out in New York, I was there for the critics circle award. The 10th of January, early morning. My neighbors who help me when I travel shouted for joy. I was barely awake. They were screaming, “You’re nominated!” I stayed very calm. I got up and said, “I’m not nominated.” Of course I was very happy. Now I understand why Maggie Smith does not attend the award shows. I didn't realize how long plane traveling hours could be difficult for people their age. Didn't Maggie Smith have some serious health issues during the past few years as well? riczhang
Thought I'm not sure why she couldn't have made it to BAFTA and given a nice speech, she could get there by car! Me too. I know that she had an entire swath of interviews that she did the day before which left her dead tired (no pun intended) but I'm sure that BAFTA would take precedence over interviews. The Chunnel is for trains, not automobiles. You can't drive from France to Britain save by having your car transported via ferry. But yeah, much quicker still compared to flying from Europe to LA Edited February 13, 2013 by 4815162342

She's also got the best publicist in the industry when it comes to Foreign Language films. Pushed Cotillard to her victory if I'mnot mistaken. CoolioD1
Loads of people were calling her ever since she got Sundance raves, it wasn't until near the end of the year when the competition looked too strong that people started to take her out. Impact
I put that because in another thread someone said nobody predicted anyone in this cat last year...then I realized I quoted a post from June

MovieMan89
Now that I'm in the right thread: This category is starting to drive me nuts to predict this year. It's bad enough that I was so torn between J Law and Riva as it is, but now I'm also wondering if Watts could be the true upset win, not Riva.In the latest Entertainment Weekly they asked 5 anonymous voters of the Academy to tell who they're voting for and 4 of the 5 said Watts. That's just as many of the 5 that are voting for DDL. Now I know that's just 5 people, but still all 4 seemed extremely passionate about Watt's performance and thinking she's paid her dues in Hollywood and should be rewarded now. At this point Wallis is the only one that would truly surprise me winning (although Chastain is seeming like a real longshot too these day). RichWS
Like you said, it's just five people. She has no chance.
