Ice Age: Continental Drift OS Thread ($624M)

Recommended Posts

Ice Age has beautiful drawn characters. The 3 original Manny, Diego and Sid + later added Ellie+her halfbrothers. (KungFu Panda has mainly Po, the others are neglected) Although the story was only really good in IA1 these characters are so relatable (not only for kids) that people want more. Scratch is a timeless classic commedy-act that not only Americans get (like the 3 Stooges). Don't forget that the voice actors in all the different languages are stars of their own. I hope IA4 can beat TS3 WW.

1B won't happen.I am actually thinking about a possibility of a decrease now. So far we have had only precedents of movies getting 3D and exploding. But now, in the form of WoTT, we have a precedent of a sequel to such film, and well, the run was disappointing, to put it gently.I think there might be a 'been there, done that' mentality among moviegoers for the sequels. 3D was the novelty those movies exploded, and it won't be a novelty anymore. And fourth film is actually where people start getting fed up of a franchise.

I get that, but IA3 was released prior to Avatar. I don't think 3D played as big of a factor in the breakout of IA3 OS.

It played a big part. Very few second sequels jump that much OS... even ROTK and SM3 which had everything going for it jumped only 30%.I think if it were not for 3D, IA3 would have made 500-525M OS. 3D bumped the admissions by over 10-15% (because of the novelty factor I mentioned), in addition to the 15% boost from 3D premium. So if IA4 were not in 3D (after IA3 wasn't in 3D), it would have grossed 550-575M or so. The 3D premium would be there but the bump in admissions won't be as high.I think 700-725M is a reasonable total to expect, in addition to 175-200M DOM.

IA4 will be a big success OS, IMHOexample of a 4th part exceeding the predecessors OS: Shrekexample of a 3D sequel after 3D installment that grew OS: Journeyso it is possible and I think it is likely, because its BO will be determined OS
