That One Girl

5-Day Weekend Thread | Saturday #s (Asgard p.109) - Coco 17.7, Justice League 15.7, Wonder 8.3, Thor: Ragnarok 6.4, Daddy's Home 2 5.3

Recommended Posts

I was looking at the web archive to see what was scheduled for the last quarter of 2017 from last November, and the schedule changed quite a bit:

September:

1: Renegades (pulled from schedule)

8: It (Unscheduled: Home Again)

15: Alpha (Pushed to 2018. Unscheduled: American Assassin. mother! was still October 13)

22: Ninjago, Friend Request, and Only the Brave (Kingsman was one week later while OTB shifted a month)

29: Kingsman, American Made, Flatliners, SAMSON (Samson is in February now)

October:

6: Blade Runner, My Little Pony (Mountain Between Us was October 20)

13: mother!, The Foreigner, Marshall, THE SNOWMAN (Unscheduled: Happy Death Day and Professor Marston. mother! was pushed up one month while The Snowman was pushed back a week)

20: Geostorm, Insidious, MBU, Same Kind of Different, War with Grandpa (Unscheduled: Boo 2! Insidious and Grandpa were pushed to 2018 in addition to the previously mentioned shifts)

27: Cloverfield, Jigsaw, Thank You for Your Service (Cloverfield is 2018)

November:

3: Thor, Bad Moms, Suburbicon (Suburbicon got pushed up a week)

10: Daddy's Home, Red Sparrow, The Star (Orient Express was Thanksgiving. Red Sparrow got pushed to 2018 and The Star was pushed one week back)

17: Justice League, Wonder

22: Coco, Orient Express

December:

1 and 8 had no releases (Unscheduled: Just Getting Started)

15: Star Wars, Ferdinand (The only weekend to remain the same!)

Christmas releases: Jumanji, Pitch Perfect, Father Figures, Downsizing, Greatest Showman (All the Money in the World is basically the only question mark; if that's delayed, this week stayed the same)

Only counting movies that went wide on their first weekend, there were six unscheduled movies: Home Again, AA, HDD, Marston, Boo 2!, and Just Getting Started. 14 releases changed their dates, 5 of which were pushed to 2018.

I also don't have Infinity War (or the other two MCU movies) in the top 5 DOM of 2018 *Gasps*

Anymore I'm starting to feel like IW is the most underpredicted movie on the whole forum. You'd think people would know better than to doubt MCU at this point, especially after this year.

I am not one of the people that thinks that IW will get closer to the first Avengers film than to AoU domestically, but I don't see how it misses the Top 5 either. Especially when nothing scheduled is a lock to pass it. IW would have to underperform at the same time that everything else overperforms.

What a dogshit November.  The worst thing is the first 2 weeks were fucked by terrible October content playing compared to 2016.

The worst offender was Justice League, a terrible movie that forced everything else out around it.

Justice League truly is terrible. Not "dumb fun," not meh or mediocre or "just okay," it's terrible. With the exception of the opening credits, a few Flash moments and that Aquaman/lasso bit, I can't think of another scene or moment that can't be criticized in some obvious way, be it shitty dialogue or bad visual fx or godawful acting or just a complete and utter lack of originality.

COCO made me weep. It's as layered and dazzling as Pixar gets.

OLAF'S FROZEN ADVENTURE made me briefly despise holidays, musicals, and film as a medium.

I haven't seen it yet but I can't tell if this short is actually bad or if cynical adults are just blinded by their irrational hatred for Olaf.
