What do people think the WW total will be from this start - anything less than 300m WW would be disasterous right?

Sub 300M would indeed be a disaster, but that's not happening.350M is a push- it will do much better than that.400M to 425M is when we start expecting a sequel, and 500M is huge.

It will make around 420m WW max imo.

That should be hopefully be good for a sequel; and also to encourage a greenlight for similar projects (Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Pied Piper and Pinocchio are some of the ones kicking around right now).

The only chance I can see of a sequel happening is if Universal think the first film has done enough to warrant a sequel not decreasing domestically or OS with 3D. If it isn't in 3D we won't get a sequel IMO, either way why invest 200m in a film you know won't give you returns for year, are those small returns even worth risking that much money? I doubt they go through with it, would be as stupid as the new GI Joe.

SWatH is first a period drama, then a fairy tale and lastly it is also a fantasy movie. That should help it in Europe. It is very dark, but I don't understand the PG-13 rating. A lot of kids animation movies are more frightening, Ratatouile for instance.A sequel is not happening IMHO, if they were not able to come up with an interesting story in the first place, guess what they would produce for the sequel.

They took a major gamble with this having such a high budget, and managed to win. Best to quit while ahead. I'd rather see new adaptations of other legends rather than a sequel to a story that did not have a sequel. (The comparision to Wrath is apt in that respect, as the story of Perseus didn't have a sequel, and the sequel story was not really workable).

Of course I would see the sequel if it did happen, despite my last point. It would surely be more intriguing than 95% of the crap foisted upon us at the cinema today, at least as far as wide releases go.
