Rudolf
I hope they will make other fairy tales, preferably ones that have not been tackled before. Why not an African fairy tale set in Timbuktu or something out of 1001 nights (not Ali Baba, Sheherezade, Aladin or Sindbad)?
tommycruise
That would be cool to say the least, but Hollywood would never do that because of a little thing called whitewashing. Notice how other than Will Smith or Denzel Washington there are no big headlining black actors, or notice how other than jet li or Jackie chan you never see any other asians headlining a big budget movie? Sorry man but its probably just never going to happen...
DeeCee
A women on the train is reading the novelization of this movie. Don't know why they bothered. Personally, I prefer the original Klingon.

I did not like it. Why an European fairy tale with colored actors? Pirate stories naturally lend themselves to multiracial settings.

fishstick
Pirate stories naturally lend themselves to multiracial settings.I think that one of reasons for Jack Sparrow (not the TASM loony) global appeal is that he is racially ambigous. He`s supposed to be british (white) but he doesn`t look 100% especially since he is very tanned, wears dreadlocks which are atypical for Caucasians so anyone can project into him whatever they want. I think that depp went for unsepcified mixed race look and its paying off.Problem with Hollywood racism is that non-white actors are rarely cast in color-blind roles which are reserved for whites. There`s always some ethnic context that limits the appeal which is quite deliberate in order to prove lower commercial prospect. The success of Will and Denzel, aside charisma, talent, etc, lies in getting color-blind roles because they are mass-appealing. Simple as that.BTW, 1001 night would go down PoP and TLA racebending route or talentless Freida Pinto would be cast as a female lead for she`s the go-to girl for diversity.
