she was like the runner up choice for rogue one and rose in last jedi. so clearly someone at lucasfilm likes her and clearly someone else at lucasfilm doesn't.

she wasn't a runner-up, ever. she was just one of several rumored names. There was that completely BS rumor that she was cast in RO which was never going to happen with Felicity having a recent Oscar nom on her resume. Felicity was always the one to beat because she had the hottest career at the time of casting. That's always the main factor.

Moreover, Maslany's too old for Rose and it seems that they wanted Paige to have a bigger role originally, but had to cut her down due to Disney request to beef up TFA cast. They were clearly looking for actresses in their 20s (Belle Powley, Olivia Cooke, KMT) and their 30s (Malsany, Gina Rodriguez) for 2 different roles. I remember rumors that there were 3 new big female roles. One turned out to be Rose, another Holdo and Paige got minimized.

Why Awards Watch is so confident into Predicting Nicole Kidman for Best Actress for this ?

The A24 brand I presume ?

Or they are just crazy Kidman stans ...

1) who cares

2) not an a24 movie.

Kidman is almost unrecognizable in that screenshot...

Between this and Boy Erased, it's not a good time for Her Hair in Movies.

Who knew we could count on Aquaman to be the Hair-Hero we deserve.

I wished Nic won the Oscar for Moulin Rouge. She's a stunning woman and should have won at least one where she looked like herself.

That or the Others which was the same year. She fucking owned 2001, it still bugs me that she lost then and won the year after because omg fake nose.

Looks like Kidman is a frontrunner after all. Good on Annapurna for having a keen eye for projects.

Until raves for Gaga, Viola, another. It's always like that. A movie comes out. Actor gets raves, is deemed frontrunner. few ours later, another actor rinse repeat. That's festival season. Never forget Jackie after TIFF.  many of those super raved become non-factors when critics, guilds, televised precursors start pushing for only 1. That's why awards season is boring when awards get handed out. It's mostly sweeps so you see the winner from miles away. Point is, too early to call anyone the front runner.

@Joel M  Good call on The Others. Another Nicole 2001 that stood the test of time. Too lazy to look who won that year but she owned it hands down.

Halle Berry for a good performance in a movie no one remembers existed. Which seems to be the case for many acting winners.
