FantasticBeasts

Movies that debuted #1 in every market around the world.

Recommended Posts

I thought it would be intresting to know how many movies we can gather that opened in the top spot in every single market they got released around the world. I guess the research won't be that easy but I will try to search at least for the last years that data are more available. Just to know, I don't have that much time so anyone that can help create a list that will be updated is more than welcome!!!

The list will be updated but since it is very difficult to be sure so anyone having information against any of the movies, please make notice;

-Jurassic World

-

FF8 and FF7 I think opened #1 in all markets they opened in 2015 and 2017

DM3 and Minions were #1 in all but 1 or 2 markets they opened in (due to Jurassic World in the case of Minions and an Indian film in the case of DM3 in India).

FF8 didn't open at #1 in Japan. It was blocked by Beauty And The Beast.

I have started to take the movies from with the biggest worldwilde openings due to bigger chances and so far The Force Awakens, Fate of the Furious and The Last Jedi are out. Deathly Hallows 2 opened in #1 in all countries listed on BOM but I didn't find anything from India yet.

I don’t think DH2 debuted #1in India. It released on July 15 2011, the same day as Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara which was one of the bigger hits of 2011. DH2 made 7M in India total, ZNMD did at least 5M OW (depending on how you calculate exchange rates and entertainment tax). So unless DH2 was frontloaded like no movie has ever been, it’s safe to say it wasn’t #1 in India thanks to the strength of the ZNMD opening.

Looks like ZNMD doubled DH2’s OW in India

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 has created a new record for Hollywood movies in India, with its first-weekend business of Rs 14.25 crore (all four languages). This is the highest any English film has scored for first weekend, an all-time record in India.

Territory-wise, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara improved over the weekend in Mumbai, though only moderately. Says Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines, “The film collected Rs 27-28 crore all-India. On the other hand, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 sustained its good business all through its opening to the weekend. Even Murder 2 continues to generate good business.”

Thanks for the info. This is really getting VERY difficult and India seems to be doing most of the harm. Can you give me a way to know which hollywood blockbusters have indeed opened to #1??

Thor3 not, that one opened second in Germany behind local comedy.

Jungle Book second in Turkey.

The Avengers are out due to Austria (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/intl/austria/?yr=2012&wk=17&p=new)

Batman vs Superman is out due to Japan (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/intl/japan/?yr=2016&wk=13&p=new)

Dark of the Moon is out due to Poland (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/intl/poland/?yr=2011&wk=26&p=new)

Beauty and the Beast is also out (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/intl/turkey/?yr=2017&wk=11&p=new)

Ughhhh is there really any movie to do this? I guess it is impossible to know pre 2010 but from what I have seen so far it is a very difficult feat and not even that worthy. It is like there is always a random country to pick a random movie over a mega hit..

India, Turkey, Japan and actually Slovenia are the ones I have seen being the biggest spoilers.

I thought maybe JW would not have opened number 1 in Turkey (I found no numbers on BOM or InsideKino) but on a turkish Box Office Side I found the OW (and I can't even read turkish :D). That one really seems safe...

(Don't know if you already found it being 1 on its OW)

India has a strong local movie industry, so does Japan and South Korea, which is why those countries can play spoiler as most of the population does not care for Hollywood compared to the local movies.
