Watching the E! red carpet right now and Kelly Clarkson freaking out at the sight of Meryl Streep is already one of the highlights of the night.

I still don't quite get why the pop credit version of Remember Me is nominated. 

 

They wouldn't recreate the movie version down to the last detail and it's not unheard of, just strange. I like Bratt's version better.

I'm thinking Shape of Water is going to clean up tonight. This year's awards scene is tough to call so far out, so I'm guessing the HFPA will defer to the most-nominated film.

 

Over on the TV end, I hadn't paid any attention to the nominations up until skimming them a couple minutes ago, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that they went for Katherine Langford's heartbreaking work in 13 Reasons Why. She won't win, but still: right on, HFPA.

I’d predict Get Out but apparently Peele got on the wrong foot with the Globes guys.  It’s my predict for the Oscar win but I think it loses here.

 

Lady Bird probably wins comedy, maybe the Post wins drama?

From a few trade sources I read a while back.  It’s kind of evident because they snubbed Get Out for Director and Screenplay, whereas it’s been consistent everywhere else with those two cats.

 

I would be surprised if Get Out won comedy here, but I think it wins PGA, WGA and BP

The Disaster Artist is definitely a comedy. Lady Bird, more of a dramedy (leaning towards drama).

Eh, it’s not really a straight drama either.  Putting Get Out or the Martian in comedy feels like a bigger category fraud to me.

"as far as I can tell" - haven't seen Lady Bird, or Get Out, or I Tonya.

 

And no, I wouldn't describe The Disaster Artist as a comedy, although it is very funny. Dramedy at most.
