Hmmmm maybe I'm completely out of touch but Three Billboards strikes me as the most "problematic" of any of the major contenders, certainly not the "SJW" political pick. There's one major part of that movie that has gotten a ton of flak from people on political lines. I just don't quite see that at all. It doesn't really even frame sexual assault in the context of society much either.

I think Three Billboards is back in the conversation, but it doesn't strike me as the winner just because of this. I suspect the backlash will be a factor throughout.

Still not getting a great pulse on who the winner is.

It is in prime position to be blue-shelled.

I mean not to get spoilery but Three Billboards pretty much gives a big heroic redemption arc to George Zimmerman. I just don't see this being the liberal political pick like dude is saying at all. I still think Lady Bird, then Get Out, then Shape, then 3B would be my pick for Oscar Best Pic, in order of likelihood.

I feel like it's Lady Bird. The women narrative and it's good enough to be on everyone's top 4/5

Kinda surprised The Post or Shape of water didn’t win best picture! Went to a controversial movie. At least CMBYN didn’t win.

It was bad enough when an undeserving movie like Moonlight won over La La Land. ML only won bc of the BLM/SJW people last year.

I think it’d be the frontrunner with no preferential ballot.  But because of this it needs widespread appeal, not just a passionate base.  That’s why I think Get Out is winning (beyond it currently winning the critics circles overall), it has a wide base and will be a movie that benefits from the preferential ballot (similar to Moonlight and Spotlight)
