Lordmandeep
If there billards wins the Oscar... I think it's pretty much official that best picture means film we agree with politically then best made film of the year.
Lordmandeep
Plus theme of the show should be #theyknew then #metoo. People like Meryl Streep 100% knew because I don't buy the simplistic narrative that only men knew. Nevertheless damage has been done...Hollywood will be scared by Weinstein for a while. Boxx93
Natalie Portman's comments really where unecessary and to be quite honest pathetic. Awards are not there to fill a fucking quota. Blaming the nominees for no female nomination does not help your cause just like femenisim attacking men for the sake of it does not help either when your whole narrative is about equal opportunities. And even if I do agree that Greta Gerwick (or Katherin Bigelow) could have make it to the list, by making that stupid comment you ruin the moment of the winner (In this case Del Toro witch he totally deserved). Not to mention very hypocrite on her part doing that when she phrased well known child rapist Roman Polanski just like hypocrite Meryl did. There are multiple films in contention far more politically palatable and targeted than 3 Billboards.

The issue is not about being political, it is about actually being a great film or being actually seen as one of the best films of the year. 3 billboards are not anything really remarkable and if it wins a lot of awards, it's rather unwarranted based on the quality of the film. I do check out the Oscar movies each year, Three Billboards is likely the most interesting of the award films based on its premise I think. Just saying, if this is the best of the best, rather bland year again. Edited January 8, 2018 by Lordmandeep

Welcome to pretty much every movie ever. These Award shows go into increasing irrelevance year by year. It is mostly driven by the political theme of the year then the films now, to draw in viewers, then the films themselves. A lot of them knew how dirty the business is and now in a big circlejerk about how great they are now. Cmasterclay
What an asshole you have to be to see women finally having a moment to themselves and deciding to say "What bout the men????"

The film goes out of it's way to scrub any potential reference to Nazis being the bad guys from existence. Instead we just get repeated bland references to the "enemy." Well Dunkirk was Nolans Lesser efforts anyways I am saying the Award shows are changing to its audience that has gone from more mainstream to be more targeted. As a result, films that will win are about sending a message then what is the best film. Edited January 8, 2018 by Lordmandeep
Cmasterclay
Measuring television relevance in 2018 by ratings is so stupid and has been for at least three years. Everything is declining, from live sports to scripted tv. It's good as a point of comparison, though, and the Oscars are still the highest rated non-NFL broadcast of the year every year that isn't a presidential election year. But keep doin that strawman argument because seeing women and black people do okay pisses you off so fucking much.

People just don't care as much. The main focus people will watch for is Hollywood handles the Metoo then the films this year.
