I think it will cross it but under TA would be a huge shock really. 

 

The raw total is great but the issue is there is no guarantee episode 9 will increase dramatically either. 

 

There is no Darth Vader like ROTS to keep people drawn in and the raw numbers are already so huge.

It would be really interesting (not to mention meltdown-worthy) if IX bucked the trend and declined from TLJ. I expect that competition will be fiercer and knowing JJ's obsession with keeping all secrets and money shots under the wraps, marketing won't be all that exciting (he lucked out with nostalgia and that doesn't fly anymore).

Yep they will need an actual marketing campaign now and I'm not sure JJ knows how to do one

TLJ's hold this weekend is going to be pretty bad for a holiday weekend. If it grossed the same as RO it would be down 44%, but it's already behind it today and I bet it's losing even more screen than RO. Probably drops 50-55%.

Taking the multiplier off the Mon+Tue combined gross,

ROGUE ONE 1.76 + 2.53 = 4.29 ... added 50.52 more or 11.78x the Mon+Thu gross

THE LAST JEDI 1.79 + 2.40 = 4.19 ... the same 11.78x gives 49.36 more for 626.24m dom, while 11x gives 46.10 more for 623 dom.

Will TLJ be as low as 7th this weekend (J, 4 wide releases, TGS)? I can see all of those making over 11m, which is around where TLJ should be.

I bet it's going to come down to the wire between it and TA. 

 

Of course I'm sure no one can guess which one I'm rooting for.
