Most of Europe might be on the Mary Poppins bandwagon than AQM, we shall see how it goes.

It will be fun to see

Latin America + Asia is going in Aquaman's side

I already want to see that number from Brazil

China for sure. But Japan and South Korea should favor Mary Poppins because of their love for musicals and also because DC is one of the lowest grossing film franchises there.

Europe has handled high grossing Musicals and 2 action blockbusters and more in the last year holiday frame so it should have enough room for everything

From DHD:

IMAX also got along swimmingly with Aquaman audiences this session. The format’s three-day was $9.7M to break local records for the best DC bow and best December launch ever. Playing on 559 IMAX screens, the film includes 92 minutes of specially formatted footage produced exclusively for IMAX theaters.

These Chinese numbers must make Warner Bros very happy and show DC can have a cinematic future.

I just don't understand why it's released in China so early, to the point we don't even have a RT average..

China has “protection periods” for its local movies whereby no Big Hollywood Tentpoles can be released. These periods include Chinese New Year period in Feb, Summer Holidays in June to August, National Day Golden Week in October and also in the December Period.

This year the Chinese box office has not fared that well and Chinese Authorities wanted to fix that as they have target for full year box office in the country. So in Mid October, they decided to allow the release of a big Hollywood tentpole in the first week of December (but still not in Mid December because they do not want the film to potentially hurt local releases).

The below is an edit/copy and pasted from my own earlier post in the China Subforum:

The Chinese authorities then wanted Alita but it was delayed. Between Aquaman and BumbleBee, they chose the former because they felt that it was less threat to local films in Dec. As DC is supposedly way less popular than the Transformers franchise in China.

Warner Brothers agreed because it is rare for a Hollywood tentpole to enter into the December period. WB did not want to risk the movie to be released in China in January 2019 (dull month) instead.

Jumanji did fine against TLJ which did really well in Europe (TLJ grossed 111 mil in the UK for example and Jumanji grossed 51 mil there).

It's Interesting that Disney already give up releasing Mary poppins in China. They know Musicals are dead in China

Is that sure? I do not doubt it, not a lot of reasons to release it, but with the relase falling into upcomming protection time.... we do not learn always the release dates that early

Hence why Aquaman got released that early in China
