That is probably still true (even Warcraft giant 433m run with that very low domestic performance does not seem to have much sequel talk), Resident Evils being the one exception I could think off.

Resident Evil The Final Chapter was the last episode of the saga. So, even if it bombed in USA, it made some money overseas.

Then again, budget isn't high. I guess it's up to how much they spent for these movies. What's the budget of the new Tomb Raider?

Not sure anyone cares about this stuff or even knows who Eric Braeden is but he plays the iconic character Victor Newman on The Young and the Restless. It is his son that is directing the film and Eric Braeden also has a supporting role in den of Thieves.

It's definitely a movie I've been looking forward to seeing and the Thursday preview numbers really please me. I hope it's a good film and I hope it has a good little run.

I absolutely know who he is, I grew up watching soaps! Eric Braeden being in Titanic (he's John Jacob Astor) was one of the top reasons I got interested in following its progress.

Whoa at MoviePass going into original films,  the theater chains can't compete on that level because that's against the monopoly laws. Though I suppose Amazon could suddenly decide to get into the movie ticket selling business too and then it's bye-bye MoviePass.

The Post projections seem kind of low.

Pablo Schreiber is the real draw here

Porn-stache is the man.

This isn't something you'll hear me say very often, but Schreiber killed it on L&O: SVU. He played some crazy serial killer/rapist who had a multi-episode arc a couple years ago. He was spooky as hell, and he was so good that, just for a minute, I believed they might actually let him kill off the main character.

South Africa production, do not know tricks to have an idea of those budgets, the Resident Evils movie released in 2012 was 75m net (around 80m adjusted), so imagine it could be around that.

55dbo/130 to 150intl would not be fantastic but a 2.35 to 2.55 it's budget would not be some big catastrophe either I imagine.

Resident evil financial track record was really good.

Paddington 2 from Warner Bros./StudioCanal will be down 40% to 45% in weekend 2 which will also be in the same range as Commuter.

:WHATanabe::winomg:

This sure as hell better be revised up. Not here for it having way worse legs than the first in spite of that paltry 11m OW and better reviews.

You'd think RT having that article front and center on their site advertising Paddigton 2 as  the new all time champ would at least have brought some interest and attention to it with how prominent RT has become with the GA. Ugh, get it the fuck together CanMerica!

Pretty sure it's just a projection at this point. I sure as hell hope it holds better, but sadly I'm not getting my hopes up. It should be doing so much better then it is.

I know it's just a projection, but that still makes me nervous after it kept going down last weekend.

THAT'S A SHOT!

Yeah, since I first saw the wire a decade ago I keep watching for him in new stuff.  I wish I enjoyed American Gods more but after 2 episodes I stopped.  He's got a bunch more coming up this and next year though so that's good.

Understandable. I'm expecting it to drop on the high-end (because that's what tends to happen), but I sure as heck hope it holds on better then that projection. Its box office is just not fair.

Wouldn't be the 1st great movie to not connect with an audience...its problem is probably its "franchise-ness" - it's a franchise kids have no interest in, and adults would feel weird going sans kids...the movie might have performed better without the "baggage" the franchise brings...

But, I'm pretty sure this will rock once it comes to digital...

(And the overall domestic industry "kid-directed" movie problem, but I promise not to mention it in this weekend thread by name:)...

Well it's a hit internationally of course, so I'm sure there will be a third film. I think it'll eventually find its audience on Netflix too.

I assumed you were talking about domestic box office first, so my pleasure.

I suppose the fact that it was a 3 year gap for a sequel targeting kids could be the issue. If you assume that it was primarily interest from the 5-8 year old demo that fueled the first's box office, now those kids are pretty much out of that demo and the current 5-8 year olds maybe never saw the first, so therefore don't care about the second. Of course the movies are truly for all ages, but sadly I think there's a stigma that they're just for little kids.
