Re-release was too soon and no added footage, so mute box office outcome. As for the Oscars, I'm sure this one will get a decent haul. 5-6 sounds about right, BP, editing, cinematography, sound, visual and perhaps original song.

It really should be the chance to give Cruise the "body of work" Oscar...but I doubt it happens...

Yea it's popping up in  every top 5, top 10 list. #6 on Boston Film Critics Award, where BANSHEES dominated. TGM also won best cinematography.

 

The way I see it:

 

BEST PICTURE - NOM LOCKED, LONGSHOT WINNING

DIRECTOR - UNLIKELY, would need DGA nom to have a shot

ACTOR - POSSIBLE, Cruise is on the bubble to be 5th, SAG will decide it

SCREENPLAY - LONGSHOT

EDITING - VERY LIKELY, EEAAO frontrunner

CINEMATOGRAPHY  - LOCKED, frontrunner at this point

VSF - LOCKED, AVATAR frontrunner

SOUND - LOCKED, good chance winning

SONG - LIKELY NOM, zero chance winning

 

FLOOR: 5 noms

EXPECTED TALLY: 6-7 noms

CEILING: 8-9 noms

 

Expecting 2 wins, maybe 3.

Back when the Hollywood Foreign Press Association imploded a couple years ago, Cruise very publicly returned the 3 Golden Globes he'd already won. They've reformed allegedly and have a lot of new voters, but...there's probably still some hard feelings.

 

Cruise is IMO a borderline contender but him getting into Best Actor wouldn't be a total shock on Oscar morning, nor would a miss really be a snub.
